(All Luna class vessels were apparently supposed to be named after moons in the Sol system. (However the latter was information culled from Memory Alpha, make of that what you will. :3 ))
That fact is taken from the novel so its true, just thought I'd clarify.
I think they should crack down on people with those kinds of names because well, I am kinda sick of seeing the USS John-Luc Pickard flying around. I mean they already have a name policy:
But it doesn't cover ship names, which it should.
It is interesting that you quote this policy here. On several occasions lately, I have seen someone with a character named God. Doesn't this policy forbid that?
I have no intention of reporting the person, but I would have thought that the system would not have allowed that name.
You realize the Maquis was named after a group of the French Resistance in WW2 right?
And no.. They were not made up of mostly native Americans, have you ever watched any of the episodes with them in DS9 or TNG? They were made of many species and cultures, heck I think I seen a Vulcan in there.
Exactly. I saw easily as many Bajorans as I did Native Americans.

I wondered about that myself, especially after seeing this thread. Character and ship both named that. That should be canned as offensive. Seriously.
I don't want to report it though, because I'm enough of a b**** without reporting people like that.
How they sound is different to each person. To me they just dont have a trek ring to them. Whom they are named after dosent really matter in this situation. But yeah.. I do know who they were named after. It was in the description.
Example...
I say the name "Starship Enterprise" and it feels very star trek. It has a nice ring to it.
I say the name "Starship Potemkin" or "Starship Crazyhorse" and I dont get the same ring from it.
Do you get my meaning?
First of all...no. I don't get your meaning. Considering that the USS Potemkin was one of the original 12 Constitution class cruisers from TOS. So, to say that "Starship Potemkin" is un-trek sounding is just ignorant. Equally, Starship Lexington, Entente, Boseman, Crazy Horse, Thunderchild, Spector and many others are indeed "trek sounding" since they are from Star Trek. So...no, I don't get your meaning.
On the flip side of this, don't start thinking that you can police what people want to name their ships and/or characters. It is not for you or anyone else to decide how someone else decides to enjoy their gaming experience.

It does indeed, but there are only filters to keep you from selecting names like "Khan" or "Kirk" by itself.

Reading this made me feel very happy, today. Thank you very much.
I suppose the trend I'm finding of naming my T3 science ships after Trek production designers (Zimmerman and Okuda so far with Jefferies waiting on deck) is mostly harmless...

See.. im not talking about the relevancy of the name, or what historical significance the name carries, or what series that ship appeared in. Im simply talking about how it sounds when I say it... the ring or feeling I get when saying the word. That's all. Im sorry if you feel the need to call people "ignorant" because what a person said might rub you the wrong way.
Some people just over analyze everything sometimes lol. I am also not trying to say whats right or wrong or what you should or should not do. I know its possible that you will try and quote me and take what ive said completley out of context to suite your own retort... thats ok. You can make me appear as "ignorant" as you like.
In the end though... it dosent really matter as long as the name isnt offensive. This is a GAME after all.
