That'd be great, as that was the original promise made when the uproar about MT's happened late last year and early this year......

Really awesome post overall but let me say that I'm apprehensive about this approach.

My preference would really be just to have the three basic ship types (four with carriers) and then to fit them each with a universal slot that allows us to choose whether to go science/engineering/tactical with the extra slot.

Have it so that a cruiser (for example) can be assigned the appearance and customization options of any previous tier of cruiser, but maybe weight the energy costs of the appearance options to favor newer tiers. (Ie. having your T6 take on a Connie appearance is more expensive than giving it a Galaxy appearance and a Sovereign appearance is cheaper still.)

Just an extra dropdown at ship customization.

Then, if you want to do variants with special abilities in place of BO or weapons slots, go ahead.

But I think having too many types of cruiser will just lead minmaxers to be unhappy that their favorite looking one isn't the best. And that multiple types within a type (ie. multiple cruiser types at the same tier) is a relic from before skillpoints were capped.

Just have a generic escort that can look like any escort (dropdown selects what tier, then you customize from there), cruiser that can look like any cruiser, etc. rather than having too many types of ship.

Right off the bat as soon as Season 2 hits Holodeck:
  • Galaxy w/Saucer Separation
  • Intrepid with Ablative Armor
  • Defiant with Cloak
  • A Fek'ihri carrier (for the KLGs)

Also... remember that ship poll? Our goal is to make all of those ships. 2 are already in the works and will be ready shortly after Season 2 launches... we're going in order of the votes... so you'll see all those ships if we get approval.

Also... we don't want to stop there, because many of you have asked for ways to fly earlier IP ships at higher tiers. So we want to see refits of existing ships remade so that they can be played at Admiral ranks.

Also... we would be calling down the wrath of the Klingon Faction if we didn't want some Klg ships. So as many have asked, we want to see playable versions of non-Klingon species ships - (think Gorn Battlecruiser)

Also... to mix things up even more, we want to make Fed non-Starfleet ships such as Vulcan and Andorian ships.

So there is no end in sight to our schedule for ships. It just boils down to how fast we can make them, and how fast we can get our concepts approved.

If all goes well - you'll see a ton of new ships before the end of the year.

Hope that brings some joy.
You mention Andorian and Vulcan ships being useable, why not Cardassian ships as well? Please read the mail I sent you explaining it lol. The Cardassians now have a "CDF (Cardassian Defense Force as can be seen in the new diplomatic mission in the Bajor system) And seeing how Cardassian is kind of a Federation planet or working with the Federation I see no reason why we cant get our hands on a super awesome Galor or Keldon. It would mean alot to me being able to really fly one without having to use the holo ships. The Cardassian faction is a very very long way off cause Romulans will likely come first...so if that means having to play a good Cardassian working with the Feds instead of a True Way Cardassian then thats fine!

Yes, and then there was the promise about C-store stuff only being cosmetic... funny how that turned out!

Adding an ingame way to get C-store stuff would do a lot to right the long stream of broken promises.

I flew a Cardassian Galor - or rather my Ferengi crafted Holoemitters made it seem that way.

Still, not quite the same as having one that doesnt flash every 5 seconds and has a proper bridge. Playing a Cardassian has alot to do with the uniform too, that sleek uniform is awesome. And as a Fed I really cant quite have that neck width that Cardassians have either.

Well... yeah. That was pretty much the worst possible thing that I had to say about the entire "Ask Cryptic" bit. I just mostly needed a catchy title. I know how forums work, whenever balanced, reasonable statements are made, a lot of people skip the boring thread title and if they do read it, they nod to themselves, say "mmhmm" and go to the next thread full of outrage about cloaks, lack thereof, or which PVP tactic is currently overpowered. Whatever. :p

That was in there. It's just terribly vague about which ships are under construction. The part about "you'll see ships!" was more vague than what you just said. This isn't new information, you've said "we'll make new ships" before.

For instance, if it had just said WHICH two were in the works, that would have been many of the more-better communications. Then, for bonus points say which ships have work done, and maybe which are under the most serious consideration. That would have been a great place to mention Gorn, Andorian, and Vulcan, for instance. Things happen, maybe a couple people will be disappointed if you decide to shelve some specific ship for a while/indefinitely after saying you're trying it out internally. But most players know stuff happens while games get developed, not everything makes it to release.

It doesn't have to be Galaxy/saucer, Intrepid/armor, Defiant/cloak specific, but knowing which ships are getting worked on the most would be news. Stuff like that is juicier to me than random screenshots.. and I can never get into interviews. :/

Noone expects MMOs to write stuff down in stone, for instance today I poked around on the WoW forum, and I now know a bunch of rather large talent changes in their pipe for Cataclysm, but more importantly, WHY they made those changes, WHAT they're intended to do, and HOW they are doing it. And the poopstorm of the real-id fiasco. (Cryptic does THAT right, global account names, plus character names! Everything we need, no personal info we don't!)

I don't post very often on the fourms anymore. I do still read them quite often, and when i saw this i got a very sick feeling in my stomach.

It sounds to me like you need to fire the budget department and hire new people that can see the bigger picture. if they are so out of touch with reality that they see every new art/item creates (every new ship, uniform, off duty outfit, race or beam weapon colour...) as blizzard's sparkling pony. then there is something seriously wrong.

My theory is that the bean counters got away with selling the galaxy x is because 1. it was/is available as a reward from the referral program. and 2. its from an alternate future that ceased to be possible when the ship shown re-fitted was destroyed. trying to sell iconic ships that already existed in the time line like the nebula, excelsior and ambassador is a completely new can of worms.

the truth is the cryptic store thing has already gotten out of hand. confirming the fears of many people when it was first leaked and people got angry about it back when beta hadn't even started yet. and cryptic now has a reputation as being a greedy, short sighted company.

That goes right along with the original concept of the C-Store where you can either earn the items in game or pay for them. Great work on making this happen. I hope it's very successful for ya.
