Okay, everyone saying "OMG what's so wrong with paying for stuff to keep the game floating?" Y'know... I bought the game in the first place and I continue to pay a subscription fee every month. Is that not supporting the game?

I don't like the C-Store and I don't like it even more now that the Excelsior is being added. I figured Cryptic would do this, though, to cash in on everyone's love for such an iconic ship.

I would not be so against the C-Store if the prices were more reasonable. 200 Cryptic points for a couple bridges? Paying for EMOTES? 240 Cryptic Points for iconic TNG/TOS/Etc iconic uniforms? 800 Cryptic points for a tier1 alternate to the Miranda, the original USS Enterprise? I could go on, but I think these things are too expensive. It's supposed to be "microtransactions" not "pay 10 dollars for a tier1 ship". How much is the Excelsior going to be? Is it just going to be a "ship costume" or a ship in its own right? What price range are we looking at? 1000 points? 1500?

I already pay to play this game. We shouldn't have to be paying so much extra for a lot of these things. The game could really use having many of these added, at least at a lower price. Or give people, like it was mentioned a hybrid way to earn these. Half the price if you pay 10k, 20k, or whatever merits along with it. Or just give it a merits/marks price, whatever.

Agreed, I think they should add cool stuff to the c-store and make it paid for. I could understand if maybe they never added anything cool without price but that's not the case, I think the new refitted ships they're adding is really awesome. If you don't think the ship is worth paying for then don't buy it, but there's plenty of people who will (and we've seen that with the Galaxy-X).

Whatever helps to keep the Devs working to keep this game going is all good in my books.

The problem with this mentality is:

If the C-Store is "the way to go" then that means the Devs will only put in time on C-Store fluff, rather than directly contributing to the game itself. They can swear up and down "Oh no, we won't do that!!!" but the bottom line is....the bottom line. If the accounting gurus see money coming in from C-Store, then management decisions get made, and suddenly it's all C-Store all the time.

Fine, if they want to go solely C-Store, then so be it. Put ALL the content on the C-Store, and in return, remove the Subsciption Fee. Problem solved.

This is why George Lucas guards the Star Wars name so closely. Too easy to corrupt the name by churning out a poor product with the sole intent of turning a buck. Star Trek has had the unfortunate luck of being lent to substandard titles enough times to make even hardcore fans a bit wary of the next game.

True fans of anything will gladly part with their money for a piece of their title. Of course this dedication can turn ugly on a dime when we feel a company is dragging it through the mud.

umm a quick note before I have to leave for about an hour. Lucas Arts were the driving force behind the NGE in SWG, the idea was to make the game more like WOW to that way they would make more money. but instead of making more money they failed, and lost money.

just a fun fact now I'm out of here for now.

I would love to see that in black and white, please? Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) made SWG and all of the subsequent updates, The game was published by Lucas Arts. in all fairness the whiners of yesteryear had a major hand in NGE coming around. Player losing their jedi after the 3rd death after spending countless hours unlocking the class in the first place can wear that crown.

See my fellow STOers and 10ites, careful what you ask for or whine about out loud. You never know when somebody is going to take it seriously and effect a change, good or bad.
