oh well...
Well, given the multiple different mission pods we've seen for the Nebula, I thought it would have been the obvious Tier 4 for such a line. I'm not sure what the base Tier 2 or 5 would logically be, and now that I know this suggestion I've made repeatedly has been solidly circular-filed, I'm in no mood to do research to give Cryptic more ideas for crap to go on the C-store.

I have to say, if the Excelsior "refits" as you level up (IE a captain has a weaker version of it than an admiral) then I will be paying good money for it. Just so you Devs know.

I would have been perfectly happy to fight using only the Excelsior class ship leveling through the Fed side...But then again, since I am unable to play the game (their effects and crap did wonky $#%@ to my cards) until it gets fixed, I cannot say that I would be completely satisfied...

Although getting them to add the refit for the right points along with adding the klingon ships would go a long way to restoring faith.

I must say that it was relatively peaceful and good before 2.0 came out. I fperhaps they could have just rolled out content to 1.2, that would have been much better than releasing an unfinished season with bugs and the ability to skrag cards....

What I have a problem with however is how most likely these will also be Admiral Ships, they really should be Captain ships. Afterall Neither the Nebula Class or Refit Excelsior are as powerful as a Sovereign or Prometheus and their ilk. But they were on Par with the Galaxy Class and Defiant, not to mention people are getting tired of everything catering only to the End Game. This is the kind of stuff that upsets new players, and Cryptic quite frankly cant afford to alienate new customers.
So... I should shell out $25 bucks for two Canon ships that I CAN'T use after I rank up to Vice Ad? Talk about a wast of money.

Thats the same way I look at it as well.

If you add a new ship to a lower tier, you are alienating all the higher tier players and effectively telling them they can't use it. If you add a ship to a higher tier, you are alienating the lower tier players, but those players will eventualy BE higher tier and so will eventualy gain access.

Frankly it makes very little sense to add new ships to lower tiers unless there is a version of that ship available at end game.

This is a damned if you do and damned if you don't scenario, low tier or high tier someone stands to lose out, but giving it to high tiers (especialy when you are expecting people to pay for it) is the lesser of the two evils.

Frankly, I would go so far as to say that no new ship should be added to lower tiers unless it is;
a) a variant of an existing ship
b) a class of vessel missing from that tier (i.e. a carrier being added to T4 as one does not yet exist)

As for the previous comments by others regarding the strength of the Excelsior and Galaxy not matching the Soveriegn, well thats handled quite well by bridge officer slots. The Galaxy refit is already at a tactical dissadvantage to the Soveriegn since it has 1 less tactical Boff, but has the additional Eng boff instead - thats a fair balance I think, and you should see an equaly similar sort of balance with the Nebula and Excelsior.

But I would like to point out that this is 2409, not 2379, we have absolutely no idea what Starfleet has done to Excelsior cruisers, so we cannot really guage firepower or strength between a refit Excelsior to that of a Sovy or Refit Galaxy.

Frankly I just like the fact that there will finally be a nice spread of canon fed ships at the Admiral ranks - I honestly don't care if a ship should or should be as powerful as another considering how relatively easy it is to upgrade a ship.

Ummm .... There *is* a refit version of Excelsior and THAT is what you buy for $25.

The lower tier one is the one bought with energy credits in game. ... or have I missed something?

I made the misstake of paying $25.00 for the Galaxy X when it was put into the C-store. Now I'll have to pay a total of $50.00 just to get TWO more ships? I think I'll use that money to go buy another video game for my X-box 360!

If we could use Energy Credits or Star Fleet Merits, well then MAYBE I would get the ships.

However, I don't see that happening as the C-store has become too good at bringing in short term money for the bean counters.

I want to make it clear that I don't have a problum with the devs. I'm sure the decision did not rest with them in the first place.

Have they even told us what specs the T5 refits would have? It seems to me that they are certainly keeping a lid on that. Are they afraid that we will find out that the Excelsior refit is majorly lacking to the Galaxy refit, and therefore won't buy it?

I hate to tell you this but I think that if they don't bother to share this information out with us and wait until the last moment to spring it on us, there will be a great deal more unhappy and disgruntled customers than if they had been up-front with us to begin with.

I certainly am not paying my good money for a ship skin that is woefully underpowered conpared to the Galaxy refit. At the present I am content to fly my current ship (since I hit VA 2 days after launch...yes..no life) until we either find out through having to buy the ship on c-store, or a dev actually has the guts to tell us what specs we have to look forward to on the T5 refits of the Nebula and excelsior...

After all, they have had a good amount of time to work on it... It's not like this whole time had to be spent on skins....

Has it been confirmed, then, that the T5 refits are going to be $25? I'm sorry, if a dev posted that I missed it. Could someone provide a link? (And, if true, the address to email pictures of flaming pitchfoks, please. ^_^ )

AFAIK it has not been officially confirmed, nor has it been stated somewhere. People get the idea because the Galaxy-X already cost that amount of money which is, to be honest, a very heavy price for a single item. Considering you usually could get full scaled add-ons for PC games at a 25-30 US-$ pricerange, spending 25 bucks for just a single ship is simply overpriced.

We're still waiting for all kind of official information. We still don't know the ships specs, the layouts or the price tags. I'm crossing fingers for todays Engineering Report, maybe dstahl will give us some more information.
