I'm going to link to one of Suricata's blog entries:
http://suricatasblog.wordpress.com/2...r-trek-online/
and this picture too.

There. These are some of Star Trek's futuristic ship concepts made during the time the game was still in the hands of Perpetual. Cryptic bought those concepts and ideas off Perpetual, so this is in their hands now. Regardless of wether Cryptic decided to go in a different direction with Star Trek Online, some of the best concept artists involved in Star Trek - big names like John Eaves, whom designed the much beloved Sovereign-class - were involved in this. They certainly are a departure from the Star Trek we're used to loving, but they were also an experimental step forward as well.

One I would like to see applied. I know not everyone likes those ships, but some of Cryptic's own in-house designs were also hit-and-miss in the eyes of many so I see them as credible. Not to mention that they could do much worse than to base themselves off conceptual designs made by one of the big names of Star Trek conceptual work.

I'm sick and weary of seeing newer ships come out of the C-Store, that aren't those - meaning that attractive designs like the Tahoe-class are left to wastefully rot. When the C-Store was brought up with the promise of new ship designs, these were what I expected to see first. But no, I've never seen any of these saved for a derelict ship inside one Deep Space Encounter - but I don't want to see that ship drifting: I want the opportunity to play it! We even have a Sovereign-variant hovering as a model above Admiral Quinn's head and pictured holographically in the ESD/K7 Shipyards... but we can't use it.

So, use them! Please!

I agree fully. If you have them make use of them. I'm sure that they need some work for the game but it must be easer than starting from scratch. release them as a ship pack or three. We need more ship options.

There are some nasty looking ships in there. I mean UGLY. There are a couple of nice ones though, like the Ramjet and the Sacagawea. The Tahoe is... ok.

That Excaliber is the single ugliest ship I have ever seen. It's a horrible design.

The Excalibur is actually in game - as a wreck in the Borg DSE's.

But I disagree that it is easier to use these than starting from scratch...that is unknown. Also, it isn't even clear that those ships have CBS approval. They may have all been rejected.

And lastly...none of them are Klingon!

Which makes this a matter of opinion and perspective, because I've looked at the concept art process Ryan Dening went through and it seemed to push more futuristic-looking Federation designs forward - I liked it for that reason. And you certainly cannot make omelettes without breaking eggs; something I'm sure Cryptic learned from the very bipolar feedback they got on the Imperial-class cruiser (which I think it ugly, but there are apparently some people that think differently).

Like many other ship designs currently available in the C-Store, once its there, people can decide wether they want to buy it or not - and that's probably based on wether they like it or not. It's just a matter of taste and opinion.

I'm well past the concern of some people disliking it - it happens. My selfish desire to see these playable in-game is the point of this thread. I've alluded to it in the past over the boards, but it was apparently too subtle, so now I'm making my stand. Hopefully, the people reading this thread will be able to emphasize or agree with me. If not, well, I don't see why something I would like to have would be less important than their own preferences as a Cryptic client - therefore, I'm shamelessly voicing it.

Any ship that you start doing begins with concept artwork. People whom make a living off concept artwork like John Eaves charge a hefty fee for those services - that's how it works. You can either pay for new design or concept art, or use what you have. Cryptic has these; they even paid for it already.

It's true that CBS approval is a factor to consider, but then, that's something Devs can tell us in this thread. Seeing how that Sovereign variant I spoke of and Dening's Federation Flagship do appear in the game, that probably means some apply, but haven't gone the whole way.

Ugly or not they are ships and ship parts; we need more. Most look like they would fit well with tier 3 and 4.

don't we allready have the "iowa" design ingame?
Tier 1 Escort i think...

i like all the designs, only the Excaliber is just plain ugly... looks like a ***** galaxy class.

also not all of those designs have to be playerships!
They could be NPC ships or from the Mirror Universe... (at some point the Mirror Universe tech should take a little diffrent path ending up in diffrent looking ships... not only diffrent symbols, or do they allways steal our ship designs like they did with the Defiant?)

PS: wrong Forum this is "General Community Feedback"

I'm providing feedback on how I've been wanting these as C-Store offerings for a long time now, only to see other stuff come out. It's kind of a downer for people whom have been following Star Trek Online's development for a long time and developped a fondness for the things that got designed along the way.

There's really no better place on the forum to discuss it.

It's a little different than the one PE made, but yeah Cryptic produced their own version of that ship. They even showed it off in Game Informer magazine: Cryptic's Excalibur Ship.

I do think we need more ship parts for all tiers of ships. I even made a post a while ago about it:

So why not have a generic pack of parts that can be used on different classes within a ship type? For example you could have one warp nacelle and pylon pack for both the Exploration and Assault Cruisers, like so:

Taken from this ship here: Warp Nacelle & Pylons.

And added to an Exploration Cruiser: Warp Nacelles.

And to an Assault Cruiser: Pylons 1 & Pylons 2.
