Not sure if this has been discussed in detail, but was wondering if "double front" (i.e. taking shield power away from rear and sides to essentially make a double forward shield capacity) has been looked at for inclusion. It would give a different dynamic to Escort combat as well as give some flexibility in attack direction. I understand this gives Escorts yet another advantage in pvp that they really don't need, since a decloaking BoP can easily take down any ships facing ships on its first volley. However, I think that should be rebalanced with a better Cruiser resistance line that gives us the option of choosing the same type of thing, such as doubling side shields temporarily on attack and resists. A Cruiser should never have a single decloak volley take down facing shields and face damage imho. Escort and Science, yes.
As far as "looting" goes in this game, since it is so solo except at the RA5 levels, it seems that more is needed for interactivity. Space combat is going extremely well, but adding in maybe the capability to search wreckage the yields specific items based on class/skill or have a good mini game. I appreciate the minigame for scanning anomalous data and think this is a good model to go forward.
These are really good Ideas, and I would love for them to make it into the game some how. I agree, no escort should be able to kill a cruiser with one volley. O course player controlled cruisers tend to have less HP then the NPC counter parts we spend soo much time destroying. I think making their hull around the 60k -70k range would do better to balance them. Their shields can go down easy, but cruisers are notorious for hanging in by the threads of their bulk head and structure. I know I enjoyed fighting the NPC when they had 70k+ hull points, even the D'deridiex that would spam Viral matrix on me as I tired to take them down.
I would love to scan wrecks for loot. maybe some random BO's also
Double front was in consideration back when DPS got revamped in may (was it may?) to help the apparently de-toothed escorts. Although its different from what your suggesting, the idea was that escorts could get native double-front shields with weaker rear.
I'll agree cruisers shouldnt lose their shields in one volley, but its hard nowadays for that to happen to buffed ships. Technically our ships sort of can do this now, if your regen rate is high enough. U cant push it over the cap, but unless u get hit by massive alphas, with regen shields i can keep one facing at max just by diverting shield power. Its there, just not an instant switch function.
Completely onboard with the loot suggestion though.
I like these suggestions. I would also like to add "Disable" and "Give quarter".
Disable: Target specific systems, thus making enemy ship less of a threat. We really need to have in game as one takes damage, their combat effectiness drops. Currently, a ship can fire all weapons the same at 100% and 1%. No difference.
Give Quarter: This is an option or ability that lets/forces a crippled enemy try to run or disengage from the battle. Once he drops to say 25%, this option is viable.
