Hey folks, new player here looking for a bit of input on the ground game.
I've really been enjoying my engineer boff using phaser turret construction skills and shield regen, and my science boff using standard health regen skills, so far. It seems to me as though the tactical boffs are woefully lacking in usage for the ground game however.
I've been running 2 tac/1 eng/1 sci boff away team so far, but I think, based on what I have seen so far, that 2 eng/2 sci would be much much better (as I am a tac officer).
Just curious if I am just skilling/using my tac boffs incorrectly, or if this is just an inherent power issue with tac officers being sub-par in the ground game.
Also, if possible, any suggestions on other useful engineer/science ground skills would be helpful. If I do end up switching to 2sci/2eng away teams, I would like to know if others are doing the same and what they have found to be useful, ground-skill wise.
Yes, in general, Sci and Eng BOFFs are more useful than Tacs.
However, I just levelled a Sci Officer/Escort Captain and purposefully went with Sci/Eng/Tac/Tac away team the entire time (using 2sci/2eng may be more efficient but I like to mix up my game experience when I roll up a new alt). It worked well enough. Just like Sci and Eng BOFFs having 2 real key skills (med/vasregen and shield/turret) I found Focus Fire and Target Optics to be the good 2 skill focus for Tacs.
I like giving my one ground tac officer plasma granades (so I don't have to carry them, they're decent crowd control vs charging enemies since they don't run through the plasma) as well as focus fire and target optics. I then run 1 engineer for a shield generator and a quantum mortar, as well as weapons malfunction and shield heal, and 2 science officers with some healing and some CC abilities. Give all of them expose abilities and give myself (tac captain) exploit powers and I tend to do quite well in elite away missions.
