I personally would like to have the option that armor gets turned on when on a combat away mission and that in any non combat situation, ie space dock or diplo missions that it be turned off.

And this happens automatically.

I'd love to be able to place my BOs in actual positions -- First Officer, Tactical Officer, Chief Engineer, Chief Medical Officer, etc., and have each position affect and be affected by my choice.

For instance, from what I can tell, missions that have your crew pop-up and talk to you either randomly chooses one of them, or has some kind of formula that I don't really understand. Setting their positions, though, would enable your Tactical Officer to inform you on Tactical situations ("Thar be breen all around this system, kill kill kill cap'n"), Science officers talk to you about Science-y stuff, and your XO talk about diplomatic stuff.

You get to associate a certain officer with a type of mission, and it becomes a quality-of-life thing where you can know what's going on without even needing to read the text (truth be told, the only time I read the mission text is on story episodes, I completely gloss over briefings for Exploration and Patrol missions).

EDIT:
I'd also like to set a specific Helmsman, so I know who to shove out an airlock when I warp into a system right behind a gigantic asteroid that I have to traverse around in my slow-turning Cruiser.

you are right,
and since it is my wish too and it is a topic all over the forums anyways,
i finally added it to the list...

PS: the way to determine who briefs you about the missions seems to be
who is actually assigned to the highest rank of each specific BO-station in space
and who is assigned as first of each class within your away team on ground...

and if you are really in this topic you might like some aspects of my Nightshift-BOs idea as well,
which is linked in my signature...

Well here's some support for your ideas. The more customisation options we get, the better the game will feel I'd love to give my Borg Captain more of a Borg look, and my Borg Bridge officer(s) a more "seven of nine" look. The current uniform selections make it a little difficult to give certain BOs a "not part of starfleet/Liason Officer" look.

the suits like the "7of9"-look are actually planned...
but point is they seem to be off duty,
exactly like it was announced for the merc-outfits actually...
so our BOs definitaly need access to off-duty...

like described at the armors above should have a permanent on/off-option...
(so f.e. we might choose the different LT.Com.-Sci-Kits or lower for the Lt.Com.-Sci-BOs we hold)
examples of BOs: fake BOs
I atually think that BOff skills should be to improve powers not actually be the powers so therefor they would actually use kits! I mean after all soon they will have the chance to be a captain one day shouldn't they need to operate somewhat like a captain?

(i have chosen energy-dampening only for that reason)
so i guess the options above of permanent on/off armors and kits would be already enough...

only thing i like to ask for is:
you set up a real nice "armor-fill-up"-effect on his thinner body-parts on the upper-body...
would be awesome if you could complete this effect on the legs too...
that might look like this: fake Borg full armor
this pic already includes the change of the Departement Color.

but if you want to make us feel like a kid on christmas give us a few different implant-options

- Photonic BO:

i really like the idea that his face is not changeable...
but re-programming the emitters for uniform-options should be available...
im actually able to claim him, but havent done yet,
for the simple reason he wouldnt fit into my crew at all...
especially i dont like the idea of my chief-doctor wearing kind of combat-trousers...
so please let us change his uniform...
maybe a new individual sci-kit-visual would be very nice,
just that he dont looks like any human scientist with a kit shown anymore...
this plus the armor/kit options above would be more than enough...
this would be the Doc with my actual uniform: fake Holo-Doc

i guess for both borg-bo and photonic-bo there could be a new npc alongside tailor,
something like a "Modifications Engineer"...
AGREE AGREE AGREE!!! I want so much to change the uniform and I don't need to modify anything else! They should be in the same uniform as the rest of the BOffs at least though. Additionally would actually like to see the Photonic BO on the bridge or ship somewhere!

ok, beside this thread is only bout visuals...

i think until they become cptn they are even more powerful than our cptn-char yet!
because they dont have to choose from certain sets but choose skills freely...
i really DONT want to start a discussion about this here,
but if there would be a change i'd say the cptn-skill-system on ground need to be changed,
so that we are able to choose the skills freely too...

to make this at least a bit topic:
could be awesome if each single skill would have its own visual-kit-part,
like ensign-skill always determines the left arm attachement,
lt-skill always determines right shoulder attachement and so on...

the photonic BO should appear on your bridge like any other BO yet too,
maybe you have "too many" sci-BOs, coz most bridges show 3-4 BOs of each class,
and always the ones are prefered that are longest time in your crew...
