Just plain WOW. That intro looked like the opening for a real show. I'm sure this will take way too much time and effort to make into a regular series or whatever, but color me impressed. If I could, I'd program my TiVO so I wouldn't miss an episode. ;-)
thanks to the introduction by STOked I used last week playing with the demorecord feature and cut a opening sequence in spirit of "Star Trek: Voyager".
Enjoy the opening credits for "Star Trek: Evolution" complete with a thrown in "fantasy football cast" for your entertainment ;-)
What other software did you use to compile this, and how long did it take to get this all put together?
Took roughly 30 hours from start to finish.
The workflow was the following:
record in-game scenes with /demorecord and added camera paths using -demoplay
recording the raw video at 192 fps with fraps (actually 12fps, but the demoplayer was set to 0.0625 x speed, so I ended up with 192fps)
cropped and transcoded the raw video to 192fp 720p with VirtualDub using the lossless Lagarith codec
applied an 4x upspeed with a gaussian distribution using Sony Vegas for motion blur
threw away every second frame to simulate camera shutter again with VirtualDub
I had a pool of rougly 20 different sequences ranging from 9 to 86 seconds (5,39GB as Lagarith AVI files)
composed sequence in Vegas, exported to 24p 720p avi with the Lagarith codec
transcoded to 8Mbit/s h264 & AAC using MeGUI, muxed to mkv
uploaded to YouTube, that kindly trashed the Blu-Ray-disk quality of the uploaded file to what you see there now
Hope this is helpful for anyone who wants to attempt similar things. The motion blur and camera shutter aren't that terrible important. The YouTube re-compression is so harsh, it eliminates th benefits from that effect almost completely. If you want to save yourself a lot of trouble, just record straight @24p
