So I hope you enjoy these and the pie-in-the-sky future possibilities and I hope that the hard work done by people like Pendra37 will allow STO to expand and offer this option eventually in the future.

Though in 1st Person view w/ melee, it often doesn't (graphically, visually) register every single swing, unfortunately.

yea they still need much work on that, doesn't feel right just yet.

So instead we'd have a cheap knock off of CoD4?

The issues with ground combat are not based on aesthetics, they are based on mechanics. Making the game a FPS / twitch based shooter will not fix ground combat and probably just add more problems / bugs to what is there. FPS is not the magic wand you're looking for.

Nice screens though.

You can in City of Heroes too. Which is a game that Cryptic created.

And IIRC you can scroll into your toom in Champions Online as well, which has almost the same engine as STO. So this "no FPV" is an STO only feature.

Nice Elite Force/STO mesh but it conveys the concept nicely.

love the pictures !!!

the weapons in STO are not nearly as detailed though (at least they would all need a set of more high res textures).

to make a working first person view option there needs to be done more then to just switch the camera in the correct position.
For starters when i have first person view + aiming i would need a diffrent way to trigger the skills because my mouse and WASD keys would be busy fighting.
if you change aiming for first person, you need to change aiming for 3rd person too or it would be very unballanced.

next point is... you've seen how some of those NPC's run arround like frightened chicken? Would be hard to aim at some of them.

For Gound PVP it would be WIN if we could have a more FPS like gameplay.

Seriously anything that gets rid of the stupid TAB Targeting would be better then what we have right now.

Champions has both the first and 3rd person view option plus fps style targeting and what Iíve thought of as lazy man fps style targeting. With lazy man you just have to make the mob you want to shoot the closest thing to the center of the screen which is a lot easier than it sounds. As for skills you can do the same in both games assign weapons fire and a few attacks to the mouse plus you have at least 1-4 and shift 1-4 on the keyboard not counting a few keys around that are spaced around the normal wasd. The other thing you can do is toggle mouse look so you can quick swap back to telling your boís were to go if you want to with a single button push.

The reason I point this out is in champions you can have both the current style control setup or the fps with varied zoom all the way from rather zoomed out though 3d person to fps. So sto can handle it just fine itís just a matter of putting it in. It wouldnít make combat damage any higher outright but it would give players that want it more ways to enjoy the game, and for some like myself it would lower the hatred of ground combat in general.

This is a video I found a while back that shows some of the ground combat in champions its melee but it does work for ranged toons also.

To be honest, I hope this is optional, I'm horrible at FPSs.

Nobody said this would fix technical issues. Its simply a feature that some of us would like to have in order to improve our enjoyment of ground combat.
