Greetings, the topic is a serious one, but is also intended to be fun for all who are interested, all you have to do is simply post links to Images of your own Starship Designs and then type up your Starship Specification Documentation (SSD) in your post under your image link.

I know that CapnLogan is very interested to see what you come up with, so please try to follow the following rules as best you can, and if you do not have anything to post right away, please wait, then post when your Starship Design is ready.

The Rules!
  1. Your images should be uploaded to a familiar and safe image hosting site, Photobucket is a good example.

  2. Your SSD should preferably be included in your post, but is not completely necessary.

  3. Your SSD should state which Race / Faction Constructed the vessel, although using a canon ST source is not essential, as you may like to use your imagination creatively.

  4. Your SSD should state whether or not the vessel has any special abilities, Saucer Separation for example, although using a canon ST source is not essential, as you may like to use your imagination creatively.

  5. Your SSD should state the vessels classification and assigned class title, for example, the USS Enterprise NCC 1701-E's vessel classification is "Assault Cruiser" and the assigned class title is Sovereign.

  6. Your SSD should provide an overview, stating when the vessel was first constructed and introduced into service as well as general information in brief.

  7. Your SSD should provide a list of capabilities, below are the capabilities of the Sovereign as an example.
  • Weaponry:
    • Fore weapon slots: 4
    • Aft weapon slots: 4

  • Bridge Officer Stations:
    • Tactical: Ensign (1), Lieutenant (1)
    • Engineering: Lieutenant Commander (1), Commander (1)
    • Science: Lieutenant (1)
    • Total Available Powers: 12

  • Modification Slots:
    • Tactical: 2
    • Engineering: 4
    • Science: 3

  • Device Slots: 4

  • Crew Size: 800

  • Impulse Speed: 15

  • Turning Rate: 3

NOTE: Please do not use any copyrighted source material from outside of the Star Trek IP in your images.

Disclaimer: All ideas / suggestions within posts created in this thread, including any images of Starship Designs linked in posts in this thread are fair game to be used by the Star Trek Online Team as a concept for future STO Starships. So if you don't want to give up your ideas, suggestions or Starship Designs, please do not post in this thread.

I hope a lot of people contribute to this! I'm working on a design to add some variety to T1 or T2 ships. Is it OK if we post WIP images or would you rather the only posts in this thread be completed pictures and SSDs?

Here's my WIP shot if it's allowed.

Not sure! One of my sources of inspiration is the Okinawa-class ship from Starfleet Command, so maybe some place in Japan or something from Japanese history/culture.

Suggestions are welcome.

Hi ThomastheCat, I would prefer finished designs to fill the thread, but I suppose if you edit your post later on to include the finished design concept for your Starship then it should be fine and while I'm answering your question, I might as well show you what I'm working on, although it is a very rough WIP.

I do like your Federation Starship Design btw, most impressive for a WIP indeed, thank you for contributing and please feel free to work on more. Also, if you have any tips for creating Starship Designs using pencil, ink or a computer, please edit your post to include the info as I will check back often.

Klingon Starship Design #1.

Research and development:

I looked up the Wikipedia article on Klingon Starships and found out that "The first Klingon ship design used in The Original Series, the D7-class battlecruiser, was designed by Matt Jefferies to evoke a predator's shape akin to that of a manta ray, providing a threatening and instantly recognizable form for viewers." and I also found out that "Sternbach designed the Vor'cha-class to represent the alliance between the United Federation of Planets and the Klingon Empire by The Next Generation, and consequent technology exchange and collaboration. Thus, the nacelles of the craft were created to be similar to those on Starfleet vessels, while the color was intentionally placed as a midpoint between the dark green of the Bird of Prey and the light gray of the USS Enterprise-D."

So considering that the Federation and Klingons were working together as allies for so long, I am going back to Jefferies idea to base my design on a Manta Ray (Click to view images) and I am also adding elements of Federation technology, while at the same time using existing Klingon Design elements.

K'm'antar-class, Battle Cruiser (WIP Image Link #2).

I am still working on this design and will update this post with the finished design and SSD ASAP.

It reminds me of jet fighters with fearsome designs on them. Perhaps klingons would get a custom paint job to make their ships more uniques since there are not that many right now.

Indrax Class
(Image based on Suricata's Ship Tier Chart)

The Indrax Class is meant to be a starfleet vessel with andorian design influances. I concieved the idea as a ship that would be primarily used in planetary defense flotillas, but capable of carrying out other functions as well. Currently I have it using baseline Escort stats, but for to fit the design theme I created these alternate stats as well:

Indrax Alternate Stats.
The alternate stats trade off a Lt. Boff slot, one console, and crew for an extra foreward weapon slot. This is largely to represent the idea that the ship was designed with the notion that it would be fighting with its back to the wall, so to speak.

As an aesthetic component, the nacelles are designed to shift down when entering into combat, thus they would be protected from enemy fire by the hull of the ship.

And some images of the Model I was working on for this ship some time ago (Needs a lot of work):

# 8 Tips for Starship Design
08-12-2010, 08:19 AM
I'm curious to know if anyone has any design tips?

For drawing on paper or using the computer, I think I would like to design my Starship on the computer but I don't know how, so I'm currently sticking to paper.

I didn't intend for the K'm'antar-class Battle Cruiser to look that way, it's kinda just happened after I looked at the original D7 design, found out it was based on a Manta Ray, then incorporated little things from the K'Vort-class and the Vor'cha-class as well as elements from the Intrepid-class mainly, but I see what you mean about the look, do you like it so far?

Also, will you be adding a design of your own?

I like this design, but as you say, it needs a lot of work, but the one thing I will say is that the Warp Nacelles seem very thin.

The System Class:

(Yes, my drawing program is super old)

The System Class is a smaller, faster, more offense-based escort offering three tactical stations and four device slots to augment weapons or bolster defenses.

As you would figure, this ship would probably be most effective in fleet/team actions.

•Weaponry:
◦Fore weapon slots: 4
◦Aft weapon slots: 3

•Bridge Officer Stations:
◦Tactical: Ensign (1), Lieutenant (1), Lt. Commander (1)
◦Engineering: Lieutenant (1)
◦Science: Lieutenant (1)
◦Total Available Powers: 12

•Modification Slots:
◦Tactical: 4
◦Engineering: 1
◦Science: 1

•Device Slots: 4

•Crew Size: 100

•Flight Speed: 36

•Turning Rate: 22 d/s

I have a quick question. Can I use my physical Arizona Model? Or is this limited to CGI? I'm proud of my 3-foot creation as a ship and as a design.

It's a completed model, but I've yet to work out specifics to fit the STO system, which shouldn't be hard.

I'll post images of her after confromation.
