On another idea, some ships should have certain facilities that others don't.
For example an escort won't have well equipped science labs, but might have better equipped armory or something.
Science ships would be able to do more research etc and have an astrometrics.
Some ships might be large enough for hydroponics, or an arboretum (like in TNG the Enterprize had an arboretum I seem to recall). These would have roles, like the hyrdoponics would help with rare foodstuffs, which a chef coudl do something with.

I'd like to have crewnames I think. But you only have so many officers on a ship, the rest are crewmen aren't they?

Your BO would become the Senior Officers. Beyond that a ship had the Junior Officers and the enlisted crew.

Can you say "Catch 22"? If you DON'T expand it, it'll NEVER get anywhere.

I've put a similar thread up with some ideas me and some fleetmates were discussing. It's in a separate thread since the OP is quite long. Check it out:

i know this might be asking for too much but don't you guys think it will cool to have a cargo bay that shows you the stuff you have in your inventory? for example you have a plasma sniper rifle in your inventory and you see an actual model of it sitting on the racks in your cargo bay and you walk up to it and you can view its stats?

It would be neat to put a brig on ship and have a capture mission... After you capture the bad guy he would hang out in the brig. Ofcourse it might turn into a bit of a zoo tho...

I would love to have seen more work on the interiors in general before they pushed them to live, but I think they didn't really do much with them. Because not many during the test period got involved ( I.E. really cared about) with working on this exclusively.

OK Here is my two sense, So far as the purpose of adding function to the interiors I have personally seen that the whole prevailing ideas seem to boil down to two concepts. What already works!(which is very little at this point) And also what could be better! (which is just about everything)

the first of the concepts subjects are a pretty small list.

Pretty much all the functions of interiors so far only has one useful feature, (if you exclude the role playing aesthetics) The trophies are this only feature. which allows you to give minor bragging about your accomplishments as an officer.

the second part of the concepts is likewise short in subject as well.

even though this feature is mostly OK, however it still lacks enough trophy shelves to be anything more useful for any real bragging. I Would have liked it to work so that only specific trophies were shown in certain locations.

the ones in the ready room could be moved to the bigger wall on the other side of the room and only allow you to display the star ships you have been assigned to in the past. (also it would be nice for them to look like a big glass case with empty stands instead of small shelves.) this would also allow for them to be more specific to your given officer by only allowing them to be unlocked by the class types you have actually commissioned instead of unlocking every single ship available at your current officer's available rank level. (also it would be even nicer to see the constitutions and other classes that aren't otherwise even present to be seen. )

The ones in your crew lounge area could be divided into two categories between the shelf types and floor displays types. the floor displays could be added to (as there is only one of the damn things ) and spread out more along the whole room and function exactly as they already do. The shelves types could be added to, so there are more of them and they could also be stacked into many rows, in all there just aren't enough of either to be of any use at all.

I'd really just like to see a couple things:
- Actual healing in your sickbay. I know the point is to add consequences to being injured in combat, but it flies in the face of common sense if your sickbay is unable to treat things like 'Minor Concussions' and 'Combat Fatigue'. Perhaps give a time limit, so that you actually can't command the ship while you are being healed, you're forced to take time off in the interior or some such for a minute or two.

- Customization! The crew walking around your corridors should match the uniform choices of your bridge officers, or better yet, you should be able to set the default uniform for your crew. The pictures in your quarters and ready room should be somewhat customizable so the images displayed have some passing relation to you in some way. Perhaps at least pictures of ships you have commanded, or better yet as others have suggested, have the game access the 'Screenshots' folder (a lovely thing you set up for us thank you by the way) and randomly cycle through those. It would be better of course if you could actually assign specific screenshots to specific places, after all you're suposed to be decorating your quarters yourself...

- Lab and Engineering funcionality. I love the Engineering sections, the warp core and the labs, but there's nothing to do there! How about a similar thing with the healing in the sickbay, have your Engineer work with you to repair ship damage! You could even get a certain amount of XP for it, for both the Captain and the Chief Engineer. He could run through a series of tasks that need to be completed to fix blank ship system:
- Bring (tech) to warp core.
- Install (tech 2) in ODN conduit number 3.
- Restart isolinear mainframe.
etc. Then you could divvy up the tasks and do them with your Engineer, thus repairing the ship, and adding fun stuff to do in the interior of your ship. Now obviously those that don't want to do that could just go and get their shio fixed at wherever, but those of us who want to interact with our crew and do things inside the ship, could do so.

I like your first 2 ideas, but point 3? This is how that particular mission dialogue is gonna go:

ENGINEER- Bring (tech) to warp core.
CAPTAIN ME- Who do you think you are talking to? I gave you an order.
ENGINEER- Install (tech 2) in ODN conduit number 3.
CAPTAIN ME- You're skating on thin ice, my friend. Get to work or I'll have you blown out of an airlock.
ENGINEER- Restart isolinear mainframe.
CAPTAIN ME- Consider yourself relieved of duty pending court martial.

Heehee then I could put the suggested brig to use!

Then I'm back to Earth space dock for a new Engineer from Personnel.

That actually would be pretty funny to see. I'd love to get the option to fire random personnel. I'd love it if some NPC bumps into you wrong in the corridors and you could just right click them and select 'Demote' or 'Assign to Garbage Duty'. That'd add a whole vindictive pleasure to the game.

Anyways, for repairing the ship, I was thinking more along the lines of:
"Good morning Captain. I was just running through some of the repairs after our last battle. Would you mind giving me a hand?"
And your reply options could be:
"Sure Chief, what do you need help with?"
"I'll help you prioritize assignments, but I'm needed on the bridge, so that's all I can do." (Which could allow you to perhaps allocate percentages of crewmembers and Engineering crews to specific jobs.)
or
"No thanks Chief, I've got things to do."

Just an idea.
