There's so much whining and crying on the forums I thought I'd start a more upbeat thread. Post what you *LIKE* about STO PvP!

It doesn't have specifically be patch 2.0 - but I'm sure you all can find at least one thing that this game does properly I'll likely edit this original post to include peoples' comments. This is just a preliminary draft.

Prepared for flames as well. Enjoy.

1) Very little cheating. I'm not sure if I've ever seen someone that I definitively knew was hacking. Some peoples' guns get bugged out and do crazy damage on occasion, but I doubt that's intentional.

2) Everyone, no matter the captain or ship class, can elect to equip healing and/or support skills. You don't have to be a dedicated healer to save someone's butt.

3) An extention of #2 - although Captain Kirk probably stacked double RSP and EptS...the emphasis on team play and synergy in this game is above par, in my opinion. The game allows for it even if people still want to be heroes and solo a group of ten enemies.

4) Aside from the obligatory bad apples...the majority of the STO community is far more polite, fair-minded, and (god forbid) mature compared to that of other games. People obviously get frustrated when things don't go their way and they might say something irrational, but the usually-silent majority says "gg" or nothing at all.

5) I'm likely going to get flamed for this...but despite not being able to deliver everything every single person wants in the game...the Devs actually do their best to listen to suggestions by the community and add them to the game (assuming it fits the limited budget). It's not always immediate...but they get around to it. I should also add that the Devs actually play with the community on Tribble and accept feedback.

6) Game Balance. Yes, I said it. Troll away. Do you really expect 100% perfect balance in any game with a company that actually listens to suggestions from the massive mob of opiated casual gamers? Although Federation content favors attention from the Devs...the fact that everyone has access to the same gear and (roughly) similar ships doesn't leave much room for crying that you, as an individual, are somehow nerfed beyond the rest of the player base. Cheers to the first person who starts whining and crying about universal slots and battle cloak. Your tears sustain me. Individual patches have had their ups and downs of course, but things get smoothed out eventually (boo to the escort nerf a couple patches ago - I can't one-shot a cruiser with four dual heavies anymore!)

7) Captain types aren't limited to ship class. You can be a Tac in a Sci vessel if you want! (please don't). If I'm normally an Engineer in a Cruiser - I can still play around flying an Escort or Sci and be decently viable without having to level an entirely new character.
I guess seven things is good enough until someone else replies with more thoughts. I'm going to actually play the game now.

I like the majorty of players in pvp in sto. Not as many jerks that talk about how great they are and not so much trash talking.

Far less jerks than other games Ive played, and far fewer forum warriors

1> I like that so many different "builds" can be perfectly viable. Almost anything goes if you learn how to make it work for you.

2> With so many ways to skin the proverbial cat it keeps the PvP game play fresh. You just never know what the new flavor of the week is gonna be

Excellent post, I will respond to each point.

1) There is no cheating in STO, that I can detect after over 1100 hours playing. There have been weapons, or other various exploits, that didnt work as intended. The cleanliness of STO is an important factor to any game's success, nothing poisons a game more than the actual playing field being exploitable.

2) Healing, muhahahaha! * ***** **** ***** ***** **** ******** *** **** ***** [Last sentence redacted by Tal'Shiar]

3) Being synergistic Is being the hero, readers, ponder on this deeply.

4) While there are some aft thruster hats in STO, I enjoy the level of maturity respect and mutual camaraderie one can find in this community.

5) The devs do listen, while I prefer the CCP attitude of HTFU, Cryptic is awake, aware and honestly doing their best to make STO great(er).

6) The game is "balanced", while I think balance should be achieved through faction diversity, no one can cry too hard that STO is too far afield. I do look forward to a cloak without a silly 20 second cool down, us Romulans call that type of cloak, Broken.

7) Hybrids are among some of the best pilots in the game, enjoy.

Overall I thank BobtheYak for posting this, it seems to me the more you enjoy and are passionate about STO the better a player you are. It takes time and training to create a good team, and to explore fully the depths of STO's PvP system. For those who are discouraged or frustrated, find someone who is more experienced and ask for their help, saying "gg" after you lose 15-0 is more likely to yield you positive results as far as help and your reputation in the community.

As he said, I am off to PvP. Pick fewer flowers and get into the new and improved PvP queue, there is limitless content there...
