# 1 Not Doom and Gloom - Reality
08-25-2010, 03:36 AM
My fellow Klingons.

On Thursday, the paradigm between the balance of power with the Federation -- which was always tenuous at best -- will change.

Over the course of the last couple of months, we have seen massive advances in ship technology on the Federation side. We have held our own up til now, but tomorrow, that will change.

I know that Federation players routinely monitor this forum, and I know that the first thing that will happen is that one or more will post in here and state a case as to why there is nothing to worry about...

But, my friends, take a look at the latest Federation ship -- the Excelsior -- due to roll out tomorrow.

Yes, it is a T5 cruiser -- termed an Advanced Cruiser Retrofit -- which will make it a very tough opponent in the right hands, but that is not what makes it dangerous.

The BOFF configuration -- a LTC Tac, LTC Sci, LT Eng, Comm Eng. The consoles are also sweet. Two Sci, Three Tac, Four Eng.

Here is the Dev post (dstahl) regarding the Excelsior, which was posted at 12:30 AM today:

Quote:
The T5 has always been scheduled for Thursday, the T3 was going to come out on Tuesday, but there were some discussions about changing configs on the Excelsior and so it was moved to a Thursday push along with the T5

Btw..

Here's the latest write up I could find for the Excelsior (CAVEAT - THIS ISN'T FINAL UNTIL IT SHIPS)

A retrofit of the iconic Excelsior class as seen in Star Trek: Generations, this ship has the weapons and power needed to tackle anything from a training cruise in the Sol system to a race to the Galactic Barrier. The Advanced Heavy Cruiser Retrofit has eight weapons slots (4 fore, 4 aft), seats for four Bridge Officers (Lieutenant Commander Tactical, Commander Engineering, Lt. Engineering, and Lieutenant Commander Science) and space for nine console modifications (4 Engineering, 3 Tactical, 2 Science). It carries a crew of 750 and features a Transwarp Drive that can be activated in system space for rapid travel to the Alpha Centauri, Sirius, Regulus, Pi Canis, Psi Velorum, Iota Pavonis, Eta Eridani, Beta Ursae and Alpha Trianguli Sector Blocks. Note: This ship may only be purchased by Federation captains that have attained Rear Admiral or higher rank. Purchasing this ship from the C-Store unlocks this ship with the "Enterprise-B" ship costume as well as the classic "Excelsior" ship costume for all Federation Rear Admirals on an account.
This beast will be extremely powerful -- and as of right now, we have nothing to match it.

In another thread, dstahl stated that this is really how BOFF configurations were envisioned to work...and that we can expect to see ship BOFF configurations changed in the near future to be closer to this standard.

I am not saying that this is the end of the Empire...but it is another nail in the coffin. As improvements continue to roll out for the other side, Klingon representation gets weaker and weaker. The promised ships we were going to get have been pushed back...maybe to Season 3 (possibly November).

I would really, really like to be proved wrong. Hopefully, I am, and maybe there is an Easter Egg or two waiting for us on Thursday as well....but I sort of doubt it.

We will see.

Update: I forgot to mention...the Nebula was slated to be released at the same time as the Excelsior...but I have not seen anything definitive on it yet for a Thursday release -- the Feds are all gushing over the upcoming Excelsior refit. It will be interesting to see if this vessel also ships as well Thursday, and what its BOFF/console configuration will be.

The Nebula is in late September not in august.
I am on both sides and I think its a fair ship for them to have.
The bird of prey has similar if not a better setup.
You also forgot to mention the T3 version of the ship.
This one will be what most are flying at first.
The Klingon side will get more ships very soon.
The excelsior is a way for cryptic to make lots of cash.
feds are whats driving the game cash wise.
I won't worry about the ship.
Not a game changer but its a real VA1 ship not like the tier 4 retrofits
most of those are a joke.

to the OP,

If you had read more threads you would have also read where the big boss man had a discussion with the devs on eventually reworking the config on all ships with the excelsior being the mold to go off of. this will include all exsisting ships fed and kling. Although it will be a few months down the road before the rework is in solid print.

I don't have the thread to refer to ATM however if i run accross it, I'll edit this with the link to it. Or you can dig through the many excelsior thread titles and will likely find it. Actually it might be in the tribble release thread....hmmmm

Will have to dig er out, still good news for both sides if this comes to fruition.

Really? Is this offiial? So we will get the t5 klingon refits when the feds get t6 ships?

edit:if this is true you can as well not bother with the t5 refits, start working on the t6 klingon ships instead imo
