Thanks SO MUCH for all your support, and we'll see you in-game!
Instead of spending most of their time making episodes that people only play once, they should have made 100 or so different exploration mission types and released a new "episode" every week(like they will start doing soon) from the beginning. Just think, because exploration is currently so lame, you feel like your doing the same thing over and over again. But if there were 100 different exploration mission types you could do exploration for days and never get the same one. And that would be content for both factions rather than have the huge imbalance there is now. Oh well, too late now.
I would have gone the route of creating real systems in each sector. Your story mission quest would take you to these systems. But once there, you could have the choice to interact with many many side quests in each system.
This could have greatly increased the amount of quests and time to level cap. Fully functioning systems could have changed the way the game felt from the start. But it is much too late to change this now. So weekly missions will be a good addition to the current system.

Definitiely the way to do things is to have full system like Starflight/Star Control. Who knows, maybe something like this will come along in the sector space revamp.
What they REALLY should´ve done is take all these awesome missions with iconic stories(guardian of forever, etc) and flesh them out in more than just one mission.
Yes, in some of them you actually have to travel to another system. But that´s it and it´s just a tiny fraction.
Then they should´ve kept back the Borg Undine story arc for Season 2. Throwing everything and the kitchen sink at us just to get to RA5 was a BAD design decision.
I really would´ve like to play with the Klinks more but suddenly there´s the Gorn trying to reestablish their old glory. Hmm, interesting story arc actually. Like to play around more in it. Nope too late, already have to zip over to Romulan space, etc.
Everything feels too rushed, so many missed out opportunities to flesh out the different stories.

I wish the Galaxy felt as vast as it does in SPORE. You could be on the planet surface, then zoom out to orbit, then zoom out to inter-planetary view, then zoom out to inter-stellar view, then zoom out to see the entire Milky Way galaxy.

The Star Trek setting doesn't span the whole Milky Way. The Federation/Klingon/Romulan/Cardassian/Breen region of space is a tiny fraction of two quadrants.

I know that. But even the known areas of space in the Alpha and Beta quadrants should feel bigger than they do now. There's only a handful of planets we can visit - but supposedly there's hundreds of member species in the Federation - so where are they and where do they live?
And if we could zoom out to see the whole Galaxy and how huge it is and how far away the Delta and Gamma Quadrants are, then I'd feel more awe. In that game, you could fly off in one direction and get so far away from home you felt lost.
What Spock's_Beard seems to either have forgotten or have never accepted is the fact that the big condition CBS placed on the transfer of rights to develop the game from Perpetual to Cryptic was that the game be completed within the original agreed-upon timeframe. Perpetual made no progress on the game, and CBS was not about to allow another developer just sit on the license and just take their sweet time. I get the impression that had Cryptic not agreed to that condition, they will have had to pay a massive licensing fee to get the Trek license, which I believe at the time they could not have done.
They had a pre-existing engine which they felt they could adequately adapt to Star Trek mechanics. This shaved a tremendous amount of time off of having a working product. Mission content and art assets were the primary elements that needed doing. not to mention the space combat system, which they spent a great deal of time on.
In terms of mission content, they did all they had time to do. They did the best they could under extremely tight time constraints.
And they have done an amazing job pushing as many updates as they have in just six months.
A lot of work still needs to be done. But they are doing it.
And however any one of us thinks it ought to have been done doesn't matter in the slightest. When us armchair developers get our own development team and can do more than just spouting words, then we'll have a right to judge.
