It still blows up just fine in PvP.... and with a difficulty slider, does it really matter how it handles in PvE?
The endgame one has unique abilities that alter gameplay.

I would not have cared a bit if the Excelsior skins were all C-store only... if there wasn't the assosciated unique functionality.

Which I've been pointing out for ages...

Aside from sitting near the top of the list of things that mechanically differentiate different ships, of course.

And the weasel words weren't always used, especially in the major pre-launch threads where people brought up objections and Cryptic offered (hollow, obviously) blandishments. Of course, dstahl is now on record saying that what was said back then doesn't matter anyway, so... yeah. Now it's just obvious they don't care.

Mechanically differentiating, yes. But is one slot-switch more than almost and virtually?
Maybe it is. But was it the plan to do so? Sometimes the game designers know less about their own game then their players. Probably because the players play it all the time, while the desigenrs have to programm stuff.
Heck, I'd say that even every other variation of BO layouts would have been less notable - can one really say, for example, that a Star Cruiser would be better off trading TSS3 or HE3 with ET3? Or that a Fleet Escort would be better off with a Lt.Cmdr Engineer instead of a Lt.Cmdr Tactical?

This post is classic. See, pony up the bucks for the C-Store or shut it!

Aren't you so much less stressed than coming to the forums crying about it? Was it really a budget-buster?

That the Excelsior affects gameplay is patently obvious and the powers that are going to be sold on the Nebula will handily cross the line into balance-breaking.

Not even a year in and the promise is broken. If they hadn't made those promises, I wouldn't have invested... that's the problem.
It all started when they put up specific race abilities...then they brought in the pre-order items...then the Gal-X...T5 Excelsior...yes, next is the Nebula. A lot of these items have some form of game-enhancing abilities that cannot be found elsewhere. The slippery slope just keeps getting slippier with each new item being sold.

Personally, I don't think that the Excelsior should have even been considered as anything OTHER than a T3 ship, but that's just me. I shudder to think what other outdated ships they decide to make into a supership.

I think it was way more than just you. I remember a ton of posts asking for the Excelsior to be a T3 skin. To replace the 4 nacelled ships. Post after post. So many posters wanted it to be T3.

I don't recall any posts asking for it to be a T5 C-Store item that replaced the Assault Cruiser.

Like someone said the Excelsior skin does not bother me being on the C Store since I can access it on a lower tier (where it should be). However the slot variance and special abilities should not be part of the C Store in any shape or form unless the game goes F2P and you need to pay to breathe. The game cannot afford for another year minimum to charge extra for anything when its already maxed its "good will" overdraft.

I for one am completely disgusted they forgot about making those specific C Store items earnable by emblems to at least retain a degree of descency. The way I see it it will give at least a long term goal for people that see none playing this game.

I'm still in favor of them adding a Heavy Cruiser Retrofit (Cheyenne, Dakota and Stargazer classes) with the same turn rate and BO layout at T5 that you can get as a vice admiral refit. That way you could get what supposedly makes the Excelsior that much better than everything else ingame.

And again for all those who claim that the Excelsior is better than the Sovereign: It gets drawbacks for every benefit except the non-combat transwarp drive. So if the Sovereign isn't assault enough for you anymore use a Dervish. Same trade-off, just more massive.
