# 1 Can't stay connected
08-31-2010, 03:53 PM
Purchased the game recently as I have friends who play and would like to join them, but the game is totally unplayable for me.

I am frequently disconnected back to the log in screen and can never seem to stay in game for much longer than a couple minutes at a time. For those brief minutes in game, I experience horrible lag/rubberband issues. My PC exceeds the recommended requirements to play the game.

I've done some reading to see other people are experiencing connection problems though I don't know how to solve this issue. I don't think its my firewall as the problem persists even though STO is on my permission list. I've tried completely turning off firewall and it hasn't helped either. Connecting to the proxy US server seemed to help with some of the lag and rubberbanding, but I still got disconnected after only a few minutes in game.

This is very frustrating as I've never had any kind of connection issues playing MMO's like WAR, ***, CoH, PotBS, LotRO, APB, etc. And now I've paid for the game and I'm losing my 30 day game time and not able to even play it. So is there actually any kind of fix out there besides waiting for a patch?

need more data. post a dxdiag report and do a tracert patchserver.crypticstudios.com
and a nettest posting the results
Nettest:
Go to http://files.champions-online.com/nettest.exe
Download this file and run it
A command prompt should appear running the test automatically

For good connections, column 1 and 3 have values around 500 kb/sec (outgoing/incoming), column 2 has values around 20 kb/sec (transfer rate). If the values in these columns is less than what is expected you may have filtering or blocked ports either on your personal network or from your ISP.

try turning down your game video to 800X600 in options before you pick your player then log in and reset it back to the higher video setting . Run scan disk defrag . Shut down any screen savers or back ground programs running . Check for spyware on your P.C. . Your CPU might not be fast enough to keep up with your video card can you clock your cpu by 5% in your bios? .

One you can update your graphic drivers they are about 9 month old. but your biggest problemis you having some server filtering of the ports going on. check that your firewall and router are allowing full open access to ports 7000-7500 . you may have to contact your ISP and have them do a quaility check letting them know the nettest results (may be more than the isp filter because even the port 80 is being affected and it should not be)

from experience with other posts anytime reading are less that 250 on column 1 and 3 and less that 13 on column 2 (transfer rate) there increase lag and disconnects.

you may also see if your nic card has updated drivers
