The main problem is that I tend to add people who run off in their escorts into the middle and die 6 times in an arena and then say Sci and eng are OP to my ignore list.

I was in this one match with this one escort that got mad because he couldn't kill me and the closest he got I blow him up with a rear Tricobalt shot while he had me in a tractor beam that ended the match. That was sweet.

The more common answer is: We can't stand the taunting and idiots in PvP who feel the need to insult.

So it's not about being competitive that makes many avoid PvP or take it as the horrible unnecessary chore to get emblems in my opinion.

Hence I am suggest this. Make all opponents in PvP anonymous. Don't display their captain or ship names. If you are in blue team, all you see in the descriptions of the red team players are their ship classes, like when you are in a DSE. Likewise for red. Disable zone chat and only allow your team to be able to communicate with each other.

Within your own team, you can see all your fellow team mates names and ships. You can chat freely and when you use /zone, it is only heard by your own team.

As for private challenges, well, in a private challenge you know who you are playing against, and in the game setup screen, you are going to get a list of players whom you are inviting. You know very well who is in it and anonymity isn't going to be an issue.

would that mean if you're sticking it to em in some pvp, you should talk smack about it and justify it by the psychological advantage you get from doing so?

I am strongly against this for I enjoy a chat in the pvp zone chat, it is all that makes some of the games fun.

Also there is much to learn and quite often I have a nice PM chat with a meber or two from a match about some things as tactics, how the game is going etc.

This game is allready highly anti social, don't ruin it more and if you do not like it: "Make a chat channel without zone chat, without pm chat and put that on when you pvp."

Well it always was and still is a two edged sword. You can get nice chats in PvP Zone chat but you can also met the stupidest persons there ...accusing you of using cheats ,exploiting or they insult you. My ignorelist is quite long because of those people and i have to say ,the last weeks i had to add several new people to that list while it was quiet for almost two months where i didnt have to add anyone.

The solution is simple. Never watch zone. Simply uncheck it so it never shows up. 80% of what gets said in zone is moronic semi-literate drivel. All you ever need to watch is fleet and team chat.

There... problem sorted.

Personally I like seeing who I am fighting for purely tactical reasons but I rarely bother watching zone chat.

Removing the ability to effectively chat seems to be throwing the baby with the bathwater.

I think that some point "thin-skinned" people can't be helped - not if the help hurts the rest of us, at least.
Either you thicken your skin, use your ignore list early and often, or just let PvP be. It's a shame if some humanbehindhats scare away people, but it's even more shame if we all just cave in to them and limit ourselves.

To the OP...

No...NO...*NO* !!!

Terrible idea. PvP is social, whether you like it or not. I want to play with and against my friends, not random faceless drones.
