As far as sci skills go i fly the origional carrier, i am not fond of losing so much to gain the new one...i was tired of bieng one of the only visable targets in PvP so i decided to invest in MES3 (Mask Energy Signature) for a LTC sci skill (back before it was un-nerfed) at first it was lame and just lowered my shields but kept me seen, yeah a waste i thought; then they re-vamped and re-invented it, now shields do not drop but i can cloak like any class ship can and get to about 0.9km of almost any ship, add in the cmdr skill of GW3 and you have the makings of a good first strike carrier on alot of levels mind you the BG carrier has a total of 6 sci skill slots makes it a sci BO dream boat BTW MES2 can be almost as useful, i have tested with a friend to about 6km with max aux power.
I've seen someone get within 2 km of my entire team, pop CPB and Photonic Shockwave and just screw my team over. If you have 3 sci ships with CPB and MES3, you can wipe out pretty much every escort's and cruiser's shields, and significantly reduce a science's shields. Then 3 Photonic Shockwaves does massive AoE kinetic damage. Combine this with tricobalt mines/torps. Combo from death, and this only your 3 top Sci abilities and one/two weapons slots. Of course, you really need a team for this, but I could see some possibilities.
dont you have science captains in your fleet, if so they can train one of your science officers in that skill, just transfer them to your fleet mate. if not join our fleet [UFP] we do it all the time and more.
