Some healing powers can be used either on yourself, or on your ally. There is a weird thing in STO, where if you have an enemy targeted, and another captain in your team, any healing that you do, will automatically go to one of the other captains. If you need to heal yourself, and not one of your friends, deselect all targets and then heal yourself. Reselect your target when you are done, so that you can go back to fighting.

I suppose there might be some sort of logic behind this team healing, but who knows what Cryptic was thinking...

(1) Perhaps healing goes to the team member with the lowest health?

or

(2) Maybe it heals your enemies target, much like clicking on a team mate and firing will select their target.

Again, who knows. It is one of those things that is never explained, and therefore, creates more problems than it solves.
