# 1 Tric stun OP
08-31-2010, 08:59 AM
For those who dont know me i am an avid PvPer and RPer. i have 2 level 51 Klingons and a level 51 Fed, as well as 3 other characters. I have experience in all 3 officer classes and have completed ALL the content in the game on at least one of my characters.

i was under the impression that stunning players for so long they cannot play was a bad idea.

everyone got extremely ****ed when Klingon BoP sci used VM+SNB in season 1 to effectively "log someone out". in other words render a player unable to do anything or play for an extended period.

denying someone the ability to play the game should be illegal where ever encountered in a game... period.

now we have "new and improved" tricobalt torpedos that not only do a lot of damage, but can stun a player on average for 10-13 seconds.... consistantly.

now every one is begginning to see the exploit and starting to use these overpowered and easily obtainable weapons.

when used in conjunction with 1-2 photonic shockwaves, a player is not able to do anything in the game for 15-20 seconds. they simple sit there and wait to respawn.

as voyager refits sit around and tank with ease and total immunity, this leads to a NEW level of exploit.

simple fire a point blank tric at a target and then activate ablative armor.

after this is achieved, simply tractor beam and use spacial anomolies to destroy any target, and ignore enemy fire until the victim is destroyed.

after the 3rd major klingon nerf and 6 brand new federation refits, all of which push the envelope of "balance" (except defiant), i believe it is time the devs realed this thing in.

what makes this so alarming is that both sides can easily use this exploit. the only reason why most are not complaining yet is that they either use tricobolts, or are unaware of what exact weapon keeps stunning them for so long.

Tricobalt torpedoes only have a 2 second stun. 10 second stuns are only on the Tricobalt Mines.

EWP is a good Cruiser counter to any Tricobalt use. Escorts will need to rely on agility, and perhaps refrain from hugging other ships asses.

Incidentally, your ship is still pilotable when Tricobalt stunned.

Tricobalt mines stun for 10 seconds. Not the torpedoes. I really can't feel sorry for you if you don't kill the mine before it activates. As for chain stuns - props to the players that killed you.

As if the damage isn't enough (ie 15-25k), a Photonic Shockwave to Tricobalt combo is kinda ludicrous. While the LRSV-Retrofit isn't all powerful, as the OP suggested, however, we come to a similar problem as how FBP was back a few months ago. Suppose I am in a Cruiser. I have 8 beams, and I am broadsiding an enemy. Another enemy drops a Tricobalt mine or fires a Tricobalt torpedo at me. I see it, I target it, but my 4-beam firing cycle is still stuck on my previous enemy. Therefore, game over. Massive damage and an old-school SNB-style stun that can last up to 15 seconds. No matter what, that is just ridiculous. SNB was nerfed for exactly that reason! Torpedoes get annoying, but the mines are what tick me off. The damage is bearable, but the shutdown brings back bad memories. Also, with random phaser procs going off all the time now, especially with every Fed Fleet Support and Photonic Fleet ship using phasers, my weapons can just suddenly jump offline.

My favorite is the hit and run I see with Tricobalts. As an escort, just fly in with Evasive Maneuvers and drop a tricobalt torpedo just as you pass by. Now, if done right, you can keep them from actually being able to target the torpedo because the game follows you. Given an alpha strike, especially with a decloak and Beam Overload, you can one-shot someone. I used to use this tactic with Plasma Torpedoes, but it's even worse with Tricobalts.

I'm sorry OP, but I still think its not OP. Only had it happen once today (hi Bob) and it wasn't gamebreaking.
We still beat the Feds (again)

Nothing personal but when I can watch a KDF cruiser take the punishment that I see the Fed cruisers take on a daily basis, then I will be concerned that something is amiss. Until then I say learn to cope- I had too.

It sucks when you get hit by it.

I ***** and moan when I get hit by it for goodness sakes.

But honestly IF I do get it by it then it's my own fault and I deserve to be offline for 10 seconds.

It's so EFFORTLESS to kill those mines and considering they're on a 60 sec cooldown w/ a 5 second setup charge there's no excuse to not routinely avoid them.

However when I do get hit by them I point the finger at MYSELF not the game. It was something that I did wrong not Cryptic.

That would have been my sugestion as well. And not only do you negate the mine, you get the chance to outmaneuver the attacker, too. (Or at least surprise him - he was expecting a sitting duck, instead he gets a sprinting elephant.)
