I've had a few BoP's run away from my mighty Miranda (Shi'Kar actually) and mostly I just say "drat" (except in the one case that I got one with a torpedo at 9.9km or something like that, in which case I said "hooray"). I guess I feel that it's a valid use of the space. Not everyone needs to be bunched up in a fight.
I actually wish I was much better at running away. Most of the time, when I hit evasive maneuvers, I just start zigzagging like an idiot. Kinda reminds me of the mythbusters episode where they tested whether you could escape a croc by running from side to side--you really can't. I guess space combat works the same way.
Sorry is this has been discussed before. Just curious to see what people think. Your in space pvp match your battering your opponent, there almost dead and then they run away with engine batteries, or evasive manoeuvres etc.
When it happens to you do you think its smart game play or just find it annoying as hell. Do you do it yourself or do you always stay and fight.
I am of the belief that anything goes in pvp, you do what you have to to win but every time I see someone running way its bugs the hell out of me.
For one in the words of my commander it is not running away it is tactical maneuvering. If you think it is cowardly then you probably run two RSPs and if you do not implement it your combat tactics are flawed. I hear this all the time “run coward” or “cloak and hide coward” follow by the sound of my uncloaking BoP exploding them. Of course then I am a coward for cloaking after the cruiser firers off their second RSP and I cloak and wait for it to drop. The Skill of a good pilot is to win the fight not using all tactic available to me is lacking in skill. The funniest part of all this is a Engineer cruiser chaining RSP and using AUX 2 SIF 3 and so on. Thinks I should uncloak 15k out tell him I am going to hit and stand face to face with him until one of us is dead. If I do not do that I have no skill and he does well that’s why 90% of the time he dies and I win. Or maybe it is a instance were 2 BoPs are required to take down a proper cruiser pilot and you get the “ ya it toke two of you” line. Well ya your still dead and I am not this is an mmo by the way.
I do laugh at cowards that run from every single fair battle, but i do pop batteries and evasive maneuvers if i am being gangbanged by a whole slew of ship.
No sense fighting a battle that has a snowballs chance in hell of being won.
I find it a little frustrating, but I find if I have a salvo of torps ready it gives them a 'goodbye' present (or at least a good kick in the pants)
I use this tactic myself to improve my chances of survival, and it helps break up the ships attacking me (making it a little easier to survive) But I only ever really do this when its an intense battle, and I'm using almost every ability to stay alive - theres only so long that adrenaline will help me
If my opponent wants to sit there and explode that's entirely up to them but I'm not going to - not on purpose anyway. I love when a cruiser cries because my BoP or Escort won't sit there within 10km and lob flashy lights around like another gimpy hulled cruiser.
It's annoying as hell, but I've been known to attempt it from time to time. What really gets under my skin is the use of Photonic Fleet. It seems to be one of the least "fair" abilities in the game... right above RSP.
Please note: I'm not crying NERF, I'm just venting.
There is nothing wrong with running in an arena match.Every time you die your opponents gain a point. I mean, to win at pvp you only have to do 2 things.
2.make them die.
Anything you do to make either of those things happen helps your team win.
running in a C&H doesn't really make much sense, i usually try to kamikaze if I know its hopeless, it takes less time to re-spawn than to heal that kind of damage..
