# 1 Beam: Fire at Will
09-17-2010, 10:11 AM
It no longer appears that B:FAW is a category 1 skill. The GCD is still 30sec. The duration is still 15sec. The change however is that the recharge is now 20sec. The durations thread still has the skill listed as cat1, but the description has been updated to reflect 20sec recharge.

I'm wondering if this happened with this last patch and whether or not it was covered in any release notes. There was nothing more hilarious than equipping many different colored beam arrays and go in firing like a Christmas tree!

Duration/recharge category system thread:

GCD longer than recharge? O_o
You can fire the same skill again before another beam skill?

Quote:
Beam: Fire at Will
Category: 1
Duration: 15
Recharge: 30
Global Cooldown: 20
System Cooldown: 15 Beams
Just mean's you can't have FAW up permantly.

I use FAW and I kinda like this change... makes you think about it a bit. Makes you play a pretty importent part of the game instead of key binding FAW into your fire all weapons and completly ignoring targeting ect.

but that was always so much fun in combination with atp beta. 2 constantly cycling fire at will 1's with an attack pattern debuff. mmmm toasty

Not exactly the point of this thread but I would like to know, what exactly makes FAW II better than FAW I ?
The tooltip is - as usual - very (!) helpful.

Each progressive Rank of BFaW (I, II, III) increases the damage done per pulse of the attack... BFaW increases your firing rate on each beam weapon by 20% (i.e. they will pulse 5x/cycle, instead of 4x/cycle, which is normal) and they receive a small damage buff on higher ranks of the skill.

Also, most of the tooltips (especially for the Beam:X powers) for those actual powers are pretty useless in providing actual #'s for damage outputs, however, if you open your Powers window (press 'P' on your keyboard) and look at your actual Beam weapons, which are also listed in the Powers window, and scroll down in their descriptions, it explains how much damage things like BFaW, or Beam: Overload will do (along with the amount of power drained by TSSX skills used through that Beam, etc.).

Hope that helps,
-Ben

Haha.. Thats the build my Raptor flies with.. (although Im Sci so wanted more DPS buffs, thus I slotted both AP:B III and AP:O I - Thus no room for dual FAW III

FAW with (many) DBBs are seriously powerful.. But loses effectiveness when the opponents are glued together.. I love when I take a evasive run, and a single escort chases me.. Then its just a question of turning back so youre between him and his team, turn toward him, fire off TBR and all the buffs and just pust him away while doing insane damage

Its a fun build, but requires much more thought on positioning and attack vectors in relation to the opponents
