you do know if u do a full reverse, your power lvl will drop after 5 seconds.

makes u easier to pop then a ship who stands still.
I see the reverse rotate also, just not as much, i lol IRL even more then the stand still

I fly a cruiser so turning... not so good.
l'll take a 50% drop in defense if it means I get to hang out in an unshielded arc. The situation never lasts long; <5sec.

WTF, you know that you loose close to 60% bonus Defence doing that right ? i see this almost all the time, especially Escorts.
Yes, with the AHC refit I'll hit reverse and rotate to keep the target in my maximised forward firing arc. Given how crazy shield tanking is at VA, it's the best way to get a shield down (any half competent dolt can get their shields back if hit by TSS). You take your weapons off the target for a second and before you know it, that shield is back to full power or close too.

As for the power drain, it's a joke. Just quickly cancel and restart reverse, it resets the drain back at 0 and there's no change in speed.

Obviously you shouldn't do it as an escort if targeted, but a cruiser with shield buffs has little to worry about (unless getting focus fired).

With 3 fore and one aft, or 4 fore, and less aft, It behoves me to come in as slow as possible when straifing so that my forward and most powerful weapons are brought to bear. I hate overshooting the target. At a dead stop, I cannot pivot. However, going to a dead stop, then pressing the accelerate once for about one pip, I get the best turn rate, and I don't often overshoot the target. Only when the other players star to target me, do I open the throtle to full speed and put my stongest shields to whom ever is doing the most damage. It has worked wonders for me.

As a comparison, in Starcraft, many players and programers complained quite a bit about rushing, but that is not accepted as a legitamate tactical plan.

You do realise defense bonus means nothing, against good players.

I tested it with a escort, full speed maximum defensive bonus and elusive trait.

against anyone that has accuracy trait, and is fully speced into skills that boost accuracy and uses purple weapons they still hit almost 100% of the time.

The only time you can get some decent evasion is when running at full speed hit APO III and evasive maneuvers.

So defensive bonus = useless

Your better off lining up your target properly than trying to evade.

Until cryptic actually makes defensive bonus useful like make 1/4 of shots miss when at full speed.

But its not going to happen.

There is no true "speedtanking" in STO for any vessel.

I have to diagree with you folks a bit on the speed tanking. Speed tanking is VERY possible in sto right now. Speed tanking is not about not being hit at all... its about being hit with 200 dmg instead of 800... its about not haveing some one hit a 18k quantum crit on you... or a 30k BO shot.

I speed tank in my fed escort when I play it... I honestly don't remember going dam I died fast more then once or twice. If you are zooming with a +75 defense you are not going to take 0 damage, however your not going to have anyone roll a string of crits on you for the win either.

Speed tanking is harder to do then mashing things like rsp sure.... but I will say I find it much more effective when done right.

PS as an offensive tactic... zooming into someones side and unloading a HY round of torps at point blank and having them go WTF... is so very very satisfying.... I like to unload a HY 2 or 3 at 5-6k and race them into the side of the ship... people never see em comming. lol

I was off the belief that the (+def%bonus) of moving at top speed was capped at roughly 65% and did not think anything more helpful could be added to it or used along with it to increase one's defense.

Please elaborate more, I find this subject of interest.
Does it require specific equipment use? battery use? Ability use? Being a BoP captain speed is more useful than any other defense to me.
