simple reason. a cruiser lack the dps to kill thing quickly but it gain the ability to take damage, but what good is its ability to take damage if it never get any agro. since the agro in this game is entirely dps based, a escort will always take the agro. thus making a cruiser useless as a dps class and useless as a main tank class (mmo speak, this mean the player who will keep boss agro, at all times).

Cruiser is the main 'healer' as well. My cruiser team strategy is to drift in and get the attention of the enemy swarm with a few phaser shots, then the science vessels lay down their stuff and the escorts come in and pick off the ships weakened by my bombardment and the science vessels' debuffs. My cruiser then repairs any damage to the escorts while they make a second attack run.

Cruiser doesn't need to have ALL the aggro. Just the stuff the escorts are not strafing at the moment and enough to keep the damage inbound on the science vessels to a tolerable minimum. Other ships have shields for a reason. Where the problem lies is hotshot escort pilots who zoom in ahead of the cruiser and get everything's attention with Fire at Will and Scatter Volley then wonder why everything is shooting at them.

crusiers are tanks now. wait they were healers the other day. oh noes im at the top of the damage for pvp im dps now. im confussed. lets give eng a skill thet get "hate" for a tac slot. does this mean a tac or a sci in a cruiser will be less effective? oh perhaps just give the cruiser ship the ability.. wait that wont work either cause you can tank in the other 2 types of ships. i know the ability for something to give hate in a tac slot cause we have lots of those.. no 2-3 is it.
hmm better idea there is no trinity tank/healer/dps. you can do any or all of these depending on your style, set up and "personel choices" this is star trek not some stupid dragon killing game. why would a race that can travel faster than light say "hey ignore the escape pod sized ship that really move fast and hits hard... lets attack the big slow one over there."
use sci abilities to jam and speed to avoid death, use teammate for support and focus fire on your foes. see what is going on around you and adjust. "im getting pounded by antipro torps.. swap in fire at will bo and or auto def. cons.. go for round 2"
adjust, overcome or adapt. everyone else will. thought the marines knew this. now fight like one. it can be done. pt boat used to kill destroyers and cruises by stealth approach, speed, focused firepower, agility, and the ability to get out of dodge in a hurry. i dont recall them needing help from a "tank" ok true it might get you a stay on a local tropical island but now we have tv shows that will vote you off or you could be president. /sarcasim off

we all know that cruiser get the top damage in pvp because noone ever shot the cruiser first and so it get chance to build up the dps number while all the escort get focused fired.

A classic MMO taunt is utterly redundant in this game and is a ridculous notion in a space combat scenario anyway.

This is not a melee 2d game its a shooting 3d game. All you have to do to dump aggro form a mob is be too far away from it fo it to shoot when someone else is in range - they switch out very quickly.

true you can run away, but that dont dump agro instead it just pull it.

wrt to the tact cube in infected, here is the usual sequence of event.
1. escort run in and grab the agro in short order.
2. escort run away when hit by shield neutraliser, else you die.
3. escort hover just outisde 10kn waiting for the sheild drain to wear out, or the agro to switch.
4. escort wait for a few (yes a few) minutes while 4 puny cruiser trying to dps the cube. droping the hp by only a few % and not taking the agro.
5. the whole fight eventually take a lot longer than it should, if only the cruiser can consistently take the agro.

the end

Your plan fell apart at step 1. Cruiser goes first. Escort zooms in, takes out a ship or two, falls back.

And what kind of sad cruiser is only dropping the cube's hp by a couple percent?

Option B: The team works together to keep hazard emitters and other buffs running on the escort so it can tank continuously.

Option C: The escort runs and specs for target: weapons 3 and tanks the cube indefinitely.
