# 151 Free aiming?
10-05-2010, 08:50 AM
OMG! Is that "proto-type" free aiming just a conversion of the ground combat into FPS (First Person Shooter)? I realize that a lot of 'pew-pew' finger experts hope this will come about but not all of us want this by any stretch of the imagination. The ideal solution is an option for free aiming or stay with what we have for combat. There are arguments (and flames) on both sides. If the free aiming system is not FPS then I would certainly appreciate one of you guys letting me know of what the mechanics of that system consists.

BTW that "pew-pew finger experts" statement is a compliment to those of you who are actually expert in that type of gameplay. Unfortunately I am not, so I hope the game won't just leave myself and others on the outside looking in.

No: it's basically just the same as it is now, except instead of pressing tab, you hold your mouse over the target. http://forums.startrekonline.com/sho...91#post3074691

I've been playing since beta and I've also been playing a Klingon since the beginning. As a long time Klingon player, I feel the need to point out that this game is highly tilted in favor of the Federation faction. I keep hearing of little things like LG uniform options in the pipeline, but when will Cryptic address the balance issues. Now that the Excelsior has been introduced, the PvP play favors the Federation faction. When will the Klingon faction get a cruiser with either Universal bridge slots, or a Lt. Commander Tactical slot? With the impending release of the Nebula class science vessel, the Klingon cloaking technology will be negated which will once again move the pendulum more towards Starfleet. When will you ever learn that one faction would never take this lying down. There would definitely be an arms race between the factions, if the Feds develop the ability to sense cloaked ships, the Klingons would be making their cloaking technology better. If one faction develops an advantage, the other side would either develop a counter to the advantage, or find a different kink in their adversaries armor and exploit it.

For the Klingons, the Defera daily mission called Rescue Hostages should be renamed, Kill the hostages. It doesn't make sense that the Feds can scramble the Breen sensors and beam the prisoners off the cruiser, while the Klingons have no other option but to pay ransom to get the hostages. Why would any Klingon negotiate? They are much better off to just go in blasting to get the same accolade as you would when you pay the 1000 bars of gold pressed latinum. I know that this daily would never be updated, but if it were to be updated, you need to have an option where the Klingon can threaten the Breen into cowering and giving up the prisoners peacefully.

Finally, if the Klingon empire can develop cloaking technology that baffles all other factions for centuries, why can't they have a scanner that does useful things, like tell them where the next threat or mission objective is located?

So once more, where's the love for the Klingon Empire?

Dstahl: We will be introducing an item set in the Season 3 release. These items are new special rewards for completing the STFs. These items are thematic Borg components that when equipped on your ship not only provide the stat bonus with the set, but with each item you slot, unique Borg FX and GEO is added to your ship model (we expect this to work with almost all ships). The concept comes from Voyager where they added specific Borg tech to their ship in order to survive specific encounters in the Gamma Quadrant. They look pretty cool. Here’s a screenshot of an Escort enhanced with these items.

Modified T2 Federation Escort
I personally Do NOT find this ship very attractive. Its asymmetrical and far too "busy" for my tastes. These modifications would be improved vastly if they simply changed some of the ship's textures and didn't add the other funky bits. After all I am NOT a Borg, and I don't really want a "proto-Borg" ship. Hey! It would also be less work. And it would avoid potential "clipping" issues with the base models... which I would hope others would realize is not the strong suit of this game's engine (Fed ground kits are the best example - off the top of my head).

Now for the part I wish I didn't have to address:
Quote:
Q: CrimsonSpot: Is the bug that some paid for clothing slots can't be used for off duty clothes even being looked into?

Dstahl: We are aware of the issues with purchasing costume slots, especially how it pertains to off-duty costumes. While there is no immediate quick fix for this, we do plan to find a solution that will clear up the confusing way that costume slots are purchased so that players can have more control over the slots they want.
I will try to say this calmly... though I will admit to being extremely frustrated in this regard!! There IS a bug which affects various characters, but not others, regarding costume slots. I would like to know WHY those have not been Fixed and WHEN they Will be Fixed??

Seriously Cryptic! Its been months since this happened to one of my characters and NOTHING has ever been done about it! That's just not right!

Dan

You made a comment about the sovereign eventually getting a lt commander tactical station. In combination with what happened regarding the nebula design delay, I'm wondering how much of the tier 6 ship parameters have already been determined and how much is still to be determined by player feedback after addition of things like the first officers. My question is:

Q: Will we see tier 6 versions of all the tier 5 and 5.5 ships, will people who bought a ship at a lower tier automatically get that ship at tier 6, and will tier 6 ships be updated according to player experience of the lower tier ships or have these higher tier designs already been determined?

... oh ya, and is it too late to convince you guys to give us modules on the tier 6 nebula?
