PUG is short for Pick Up Game. It's anything you do in game with other people you don't know.

A PUG is a Pick Up Group, where at least one member of the team is a stranger to the rest of the team, and was picked up to complete the team, for example, by the team or by the player advertising in Zone chat to fill the team for an STF or any other team event such as PvP or Fleet Actions.

Almost every STF absolutely REQUIRES five-person teams. Infected needs a minimum of three, but a full five-person team is always preferable.

The current four STFs are Infected, The Cure, Khitomer Accord, and Terradome, only available to Rear Admiral Lower Half Rank 5 players on the Fed side, and Brigadier General Rank 5 players on the Klingon side.

The Cure is obtainable as a mission once Infected is completed, and Khitomer Accord is obtainable once The Cure is completed, but Terradome does not need any other STF to have been completed, since Terradome and Infected are both independently assigned to the player when reaching the minimum rank.

Terradome is the STF with the Undine as the enemy, with the remaining STFs all including just Borg enemies.

Is there a level requirement for this specific borg stuff? I am a Lt Commander, should I even bother?

This is the quoted text:
"Dstahl: We will be introducing an item set in the Season 3 release. These items are new special rewards for completing the STFs. These items are thematic Borg components that when equipped on your ship not only provide the stat bonus with the set, but with each item you slot, unique Borg FX and GEO is added to your ship model (we expect this to work with almost all ships). The concept comes from Voyager where they added specific Borg tech to their ship in order to survive specific encounters in the Gamma Quadrant. They look pretty cool. Here’s a screenshot of an Escort enhanced with these items."

Thanks,
Quiiliitiila
FYI Quiiliitiila – Don’t get to excited about special rewards in STFs. Take Infected for example. When your team completes the Space mission, the special reward is a purple (Very Rare) ship component or ship weapon (with a Borg buff). It’s only given to one player on the team. The other four are out of luck. Destroy the Queen at the end of Infected and guess what – a single purple ground weapon (with a Borg buff)given to one team member only.

To add insult to injury what ever you’re lucky enough to get is bound to you when you receive it. Why is this a bad thing? Because more times than not, you don’t need or want the item. Since it’s bound you can’t trade, give it away, or sell it on the exchange.

If Cryptic is going to add thematic components, I’d like to see them also add improvements to the reward system itself. First, someone said 1 hour to complete Infected? That’s an exception, possible with a trained team that has the right equipment, officers, and know what they’re doing. In a normal situation, try 2 – 5 hours with no guarantee of success in some cases. Given the amount of time & effort STFs take to complete, Cryptic should allow everyone on a team to have a reward. Also, allow everyone a choice of what they can pick. If nothing else, make all rewards bind on equip so players could trade or sell them. If Cryptic made these (simple?) improvements, I think they would generate enough incentive for more players to join and complete STF missions. It’s too difficult now just getting an STF team together, much less completing the STF successfully.

Just one more general comment for anyone interested in STFs, PVP, or being a better player in general – join a fleet. You’ll meet players with experience and knowledge willing to share their ideas and assist you with those interests and missions you have in common. I’m a member of First Alpha Quadrant myself. We’re a family oriented fleet open to all ages. Please contact me in-game at Santana@imaginos_8 if you would like more info about fleets in general.

I think he is referring to the special borg equipment that was mentioned in the latest Ask Cryptic, not the drops. And don't forget you also get marks of valor for doing them. Yes, most of the items that can be bought with them are not a whole lot better than the stuff you can buy with exploration marks, but there IS 1 item that is exclusive to marks of valor, and that is the purple mark X Klingon bat'leth which can be bought for 35 marks. Worth it in my book.

I would agree if by "normal" you mean a PUG situation. Certainly not normal for any fleet that runs them routinely (ie ran them more than just 1 time). Do a search and you will find people who say they complete infected in under an hour. The fastest I've seen people post on the forums is 35 minutes, and I believe they even have a video to prove it. I, personally, have not been able to beat that time, but I HAVE done Infected with fleets other than my own, and it has never taken more than 2 hours. It's not really the gear that matters, but rather the team work and knowing the correct strategy. Of course the first few times we went through it took us hours. But now that we know the strategy, we've gotten it down to about an hour.

Latinumbar, thank you for remembering the Marks of Valor. I never used mine so I forgot all about them. If there’s a purple Bat’leth available, I can’t wait to get one.

Yes I am aware Quiiliitiila was speaking about the Season 3 thematic Borg components. My comments regarding the current purple drop in Infected was to imply it wouldn’t surprise me to find out Cryptic will only offer one thematic component reward per STF team. Given the difficulty & time necessary to complete an STF, everyone on the team should receive a reward, not just one “lucky” individual.

I believe he said it would be "reward" (as opposed to a drop), which would mean everyone on the team would get it. Kind of like the Breen ground weapon reward or Cryo grenade reward. At least that is my interpretation. And I am definitely looking forward to THAT.

I want to thank you all for your responses, just the fact that my initial question has sparked about 2 pages of discussion is surprising to say the least. As to the discussion itself I did only mean the borg ship components, my character is a liberated borg and I figured they would add a nice touch to his ship.

Yes I do belong to a fleet, however it is brand new and the creator has seemingly lost interest as he has done almost nothing with it for a while. The Fleet is called The Hive Mind (a borg only group) and I really enjoy the concept, though the fleet hardly does anything together... Possibly I could take it over.... hmmmmm... Food for thought...
