So I joined a PvP fleet (or at least it was at the time) I learned a lot. My honest tip is join a good PvP fleet like -OoV-, TSI, 7th Core, 23rd fleet, Aurora Fleet, or Knights Templar... These are some of the best Fleets out there and can help you improve your game. Also you can join OrganizedPVP channel and there is a lot of help there. My main suggestion though is to Join a great PvP fleet and learn from the leaders and members within the ranks.
The only problem being that you cant always just "join a great PvP fleet" - often they Will be invite only, and youll have to get noticed to get invited.. Others Might have open invites, but these tend to have far more casual players.

I've probably put in about 8 hours of playing in the last 2-3 days, playing around with different combos with little improvement.

I STRONGLY disagree that is luck with the tactical ships/ Birds of Prey with their 1 hit KO. Its happened to me constantly. Decloak, shoot, kill my tech, shoot again, dead.... If I run, a tactical ship can easily catch me. Back in the old days tactical ships were the usual targets. Now I think people are attacking the Cruisers, just because its harder for us to run and hide. There is little REAL combat going on anymore. Just hit and run, hit and run, hit and run. ENOUGH! Probably did 20-30 matches and maybe won 2-3. When it was a bunch of cruisers in the match it was actually fun. Defiants, and other little 1 shot wonders not so much.

Same goes for the frakking klingon side with their birds of prey, only its more of a slaughter. As long as they get first strike, they will always be able to take out 1-2 ships right off the bat setting the game off balance and rarely is there any organized recovery.

My frustration level is way over the top. I really think this game has too me technical aspects for me to comprehend, and I don't want to run any other ship. I've played around with about every combo at my disposal.

I'm going to walk away from this game for a few days before I make my decision, but I think I'm done with it for good. This is so dissapointing, since I loved Bridge Commander and Armada so much. I absolutely hated WOW, and I think this is more like that game than anything Trek. I seriously doubt you guys would like to see PVP dumbed down though.

I hate the missions because I HATE the ground stuff, so without PVP being satisfying that leaves little else.

Shoot - kill tech - shoot again is 1: NOT a oneshot 2: Most likely NOT a Tactical..

A "real" oneshot can only really happen with a BOL shot that is 1: buffed insanely up 2: gets a critical roll 3: rolls pretty high in damage.. While a Tricobalt can do insane amounts of damage, it doesnt really work when the targets shields are up.

What you are describing are a combination of skills, used in quick succession.. It have nothing to do with oneshotting people, not even close.. My suggestion is to learn resists, understand resists and use resists.. This rarely happens to me, and I fly both escorts and a cruisers..

Youre talking about cruisers.. These are the ships this should happen the least to.. A properly set up cruiser are "very hard to kill" (said in a voice not unlike the Colonel from Avatar's)

Id guess that your setup is all wrong, that your way of using your skills are all wrong.. Read the posts in the various areas of the forum (Faithborns healing guide is a good place to start).

Bottomline: If you just want to be an uber tank, that can take on several targets with impunity, without understanding how PvP works.. Then the game is clearly not for you.. Especially not considering they will seriously change how RSP works

On the other hand, these changes hurt Escorts/Sciencevessels and Carriers more than it hurt cruiseres..
You simply wont have that "hit one button and be neig invulnerable for 15 sec" ability anymore (which means its infinately more important to understand how resists and heals work)

Nah, keep him open for laughs... I've only faced him once, in a match where we (feds) repeatedly killed the klinks. Apparently he *****ed so hard in team-chat that the other members of his team basically put a price on his head in zone-chat .. something like "do all klinks a favour and kill star..." wish i had a screenie of that...

OP: A few suggestions that will get you far.
- Balance your shieds constantly!!! And i MEAN spam that button!
- Do not underestimate Emergency Power to shields
- Do not underestimate resist from upping your shield power.
- Be willing to sacrifice any preferences as to weapons, skills etc.
(i know this is hard to do... i currently have 2 sci toons, one built for PvP and one built the way i like him to be)
- Resists are great! especially if combined with heals.
- Learn to die... I PvE all players can survive, in PvP players WILL die... when one team is better, the other will die a lot... try not to let it get to you

It's really nice to see a person actually looking for help to improve himself! Coming here is a real good approach, as opposed to those who just whine in zonechat... Good luck!

PM some of the people on this thread/board if you see them in game, and I'm sure people will be willing to give tips.

Also, you can set up 1 v 1 matches for tutorial purposes now.
