Well, most ready rooms have two shelfs were you can put decorative ships or accolade rewards. Also in the mess area you can put four things on a wall and one on the floor.
Yes. I think it is under-done. A spot here and a spot there is not my idea of a 'Trophy Shelf'. And I liked the Sea-Foam Green interior of the Intrepid Class Voyager, can I get that yet? So it seems that there was allready an attempt at a Trophy Shelf. Perhaps we can get icons to go in our forum sig's that relate what acclodes and such we have earned in-game? I just see no way to 'Put My Pips On Display'.
The thing is that there are so many accolades, to display them all would take up a lot of room, either in game or on the forum. I understand your desire to display them all, though it isn't practical.
