# 1 Whats The Point,,

I play as both Klingon and fed,,but i like the klink side better, with that being said,,why is there such a im-balance,,i mean i have a klink ship with corvariant shields mark XI,,with a field emitter, same mark,a shield amplifier,,with abalative armor mark XI,,fully trained officers,,with anti-proton damage2 mark XI, anti-proton dual beam bank,,same class,,dual heavy disruptors x2,,in other words maxed out for a klink ship,,yet,,in pvp arena,,a defiant class ship slices thru my shields like they werent even there,,i even managed to tractor his ship,,and point blank blast at him with little affect,,after my shields lasted about 4 secs with him ,,well my fight was over,,my question is ,,whats the point ..the balanced is so screwed to the point of actually cancelling subscription,,i know you are suppose to lose,,i agree fully.but this is crazy..after all the game seems to be tailored to the fed side,,it shouldnt even be called star trek online,,it should be called Federation online,,the proof is in the klingon daily missions,,emblems never take after you complete missions,,let me re-do that,,they sometimes take after a daily,,and when you do a daily and you are fighting enemy or just exploring,,what do you see in klink dailys,,anomalies floting around that you cant get,,???????,,now crptic claims they play the game to,,ok this has to be the guy who draws the short straw,,because nothing ever seems to get fixed when it comes to updates..in fact some seem to make the game worse,,ok,,im done moaning just looking to see if anybody else have noticed the almost huge im-balance..maybe things will change,,but i dont see a rush to do so,,good gaming all

It's rough to watch my best alpha be brushed aside or to duke it out with someone who turns the tables and pops me without even a scratch. I'd be lying if I said that I wasn't confused and frustrated at times. There are so many factors to consider though and there is so much evidence to the contrary to just blast one side as being terribly out of balance. There are imbalances, but that's part of the give and take. Each side has some strengths and weaknesses. It makes it a more engaging experience in my opinion.

On a side note, it is amusing to see people upset that the Klinks are overpowered and then read another post about Feds being overpowered.

If your shields are dropping to an alpha-strike, you aren't hardening them.

Mk XI and Covariant Capx2 shields and the +35% shield emitter can help you survive A LITTLE BIT. That stuff adds to the size of your health pool, but it does nothing to stop you from taking damage.

What will help you a lot is using Transfer Shield Strength and Emergency Power to Shields. Combined with a medium shield power setting EPtS 2 will reduce all damage you take by around 50%. It lasts 30 seconds and has a minute cooldown, so you can chain 2 copies almost perfectly. That one BO power does more to keep you alive than anything else you mentioned.

Be sure to use EPtS *before* you get hit. It's a decent shields heal, but you should never wait to heal your shields when you can harden them so they don't take damage instead.

It helps to support EPtS with other abilities like Science Team or TSS to keep your shields healed as well as hardened.

Of course, if you're in a Raptor (or Defiant-R) you will have fewer abilities available to harden your shields, but even with just LT science and engineer stations you can do all right.

You know your stuff! I am an engineer and I find that the following greatly improves my survivability, to the frustration of the enemy:

"The best defence is an offense..." - I try to balance the ratio of my shields attributes/ hull repairs/ debuffs. In my experience I have often improved my success by not only playing defensively well, but reduced my opponents ability to play offensively. In the end, I wear him down.

Shield:
Transfer Shield Strength I,
Emergency Power to Shields II

Hull:
Polarise Hull II,
Hazard Emitters I
Engineering I
Engineering III

Debuffs:
Energy Siphon II,
Viral Matrix II

I have almost all of my skills bound to keys, especially my survival skills. Yet, I am finding I can get alpha struck by escorts and annihilated before I can even hit my bind keys. What is the point in buffs if Target shields 3 immediately takes down one facing shield and the remaining skills pop your hull before you can even react?

I thought the days of insta-kills were over? Evidently not.

Granted it isn't a common experience, but come up against any pair of escorts who know what they are doing and you are dead quicker than Harry Kim can get a boner.
