Wow did this go off topic into canon land.

Galaxy-x is too weak in light of updates. Most of them are rusting away in ship inventories all over the sol system.... Please /fix devs.

I love reading canon discussions tends to show how many times canon itself screws up.

Anyway Sovy could use a minor boost, but not a refit just yet as it is really not far behind the excelsior.

Gal-X is a one trick pony and quite rubbish, but I couldn't care less about her because I hate anything that has galaxy class looks to it. (and yes I do have the Gal-X)

It's a shame that the talk of changing around all ship's layouts that yellownames spouted when the Excelsior came around turned out to be BS... the Sovvie is in particular need of it.

I don't think it is a shame. All it boiled down to was giving every ship a 2nd Lt.Cmdr slot. That's just "MOAR POWR", with a lot of unforseeable consequences and another clickie on the overloaded UI.

The Assault Cruiser is fine. People overvalue the name "Assault" and undervale the worth of a Lt.Cmdr Engineer. With the up-coming changes to Tactical Team and Beam Target Subsystem (Rank 1 version becoming available), the Assault Cruiser, Tactical Escort Retrofit and the Raptor get the final tweak needed. But the primary change that "nerfed" the Advanced Heavy Cruiser Retroft compared to the Assault Cruiser was the RSP nerf. There is a notable difference between Engineering Team 1 or 3 or Emergency Power to Shields 1 or 3 when it comes to survivability, and RSP no longer negates this difference.

It's not. The Sovereign is a several decades old ship.

And the Excelsior is NOT better then the Sovereign. It is just different. More damage potential, less survivability.
Maybe Starfleet thought that some of their best and newest cruisers - like the Assault and Star Cruisers - that will be at the forefront of exploration and war primarily need to be tough. These ships are the ones that will have to survive first contact with an advanced hostile alien race to report back home about the new threat. These ships will have to wait for the enemies to fire the first shot and take it before Starfleet policy allows giving up diplomatic solution in favor of a violent one.

They never even really got THAT specific before poofing it into thin air.

You may be right, but these were pretty much the original Excelsior stats as posted by dstahl, IIRC.

I also tend to think dstahl's statement was blown way out of proportion. It did not seem like a sure thing at all, it seems like something dstahl believed to have heard. I know he's producer and all, but if he describes something with such lack of certainity... It probably is uncertain.

Or it was just throwaway BS to try and deflect the criticism that arose from announcing the plan to put such an absurdly capable ship as the original Excelsior design in the C-store. *shrug*

Just a simple question ¿which of both its the best Assault Cruisers? In other worths, ¿ which of both its the best DPS crus of the Federation? Its simple: Excelsior...
Lets take way the BOffs slots.. Excelsior has more turn rate and same hull than Sove.. something its wrong.. or increase the Sove hull, or the Sove turn rate, or remove same thing from Excelsior.
I knew some ppl paid for that ship and they dont want to be balance with the Sove, i knew.. i understand.. no balance, just "Mine ship the best".
