# 1 Commodore rank please

On the Federation side, can we please use the British Naval ranks instead of U.S. Naval ones?

Instead of Rear Admiral Lower Half, Upper Half, it would be Commodore, Rear Admiral.

I highly doubt any person would address my avatar as "Hello, Rear Admiral Upper Half 'name'."

Also, Commodore is just so much better sounding than Rear Admiral Lower Half.

It's not always Cryptic's choice. CBS/Paramount made the change from Commodore during the TNG/DS9/VOY era. They might not want to bring it back. I really don't know. This request has been brought up a lot and Cryptic's been pretty good at trying to give the fans what they want. That fact that we don't have Commodore after 9 months seems to indicate there's a reason for it.

Apparently Cryptic has said "No" to Commodore. If this is CBS or someone else telling them to say no, I'm not sure. But they seem pretty determined to not add Commodore as a rank.

Lionel Ritchie approves of this idea.

The problem with this theory is that there was never any canon evidence of the change. We never saw a one-pip Admiral (or Commodore) in the 24th century. The only evidence is in non-canon "reference" books like the Encyclopedia, and the Memory-Alpha site (which takes that info from the non-canon "reference" books).

I personally think the US Navy should go back to Commodore. Lower Half/Upper Half just sounds unprofessional, in my opinion. They should at least make it RA and RA First Class, like the Marines do with Private, and the Air Force does with Airman. That, of course, is a different conversation entirely...
