# 1 I forgive cryptic

Like many of us, i was upset at launch about the lack of content and how the content that was there was presented. "kill them all!"

All the new content thats coming into the game has really changed how i look at STO and i'm happy to play and glad i stayed around.

However thats not what i am forgiving cryptic for today. As UGC comes closer to reality i've been drafting ideas for missions to create. I had what i believed to be a nice little collection. Even a few with a story archs built in. Untill.... I realized that many of my missions, even with the storys i'm telling would still in the end be 'kill everything' and 'scan this'. On paper i'm delighted with how my stories are going, and i may yet use them but as a mission in STO... they wouldn't be anything new.

So i realized this is might of what happened to cryptic. Where as i could criticize the developers for a lack of foresight on the difference of a good story and good content, i caught myself in this situation myself and can not hold a double standard. It would be understandable if cryptic approached early missions in STO from a writing sort of way... as thats what made many episodes of our favorite tv show so good. When i was drafting my ideas, i went about it the same way. So, as upset as i was in February and march for missions that felt like they had no depth, i think i now understand what happened and can no longer hold any more ill will against cyrptic for this.

Perhaps a lesson to learn from this would be:
Good Star Trek does not equal good content?

blob of text .. pew pew pew.. blob of text .. scan .. blob of text .. pew pew pew !!!

it's true what the OP is saying.. all the good intentions in the world don't help when well, players don't read..

STO stories in the missions are great.. but i'll be the first one to admit, after the first couple i tend to just hit continue or look for the green option

So, true. I often have to 'sneak' enough time to get in game and play a mission and inevitably I end up rushing through and only skimming the text without really reading it. When the mission is over, I sometimes think, "ahhh, another zerg fest completed." The problem wasn't the mission, the problem was that I couldn't be bothered to read the text and enjoy the ride. That said, I have found it much more natural to read through the story and enjoy the mission with these weekly episodes that we've been blessed with. So, I do think it is a combination of slowing down and enjoying the mission and better missions being provided to enjoy. Anyway, that's my experience.
