kinda got annoyed when i saw this q once again pop up in Q&A:

Q: jkstocbr: What are the future plans for ship advancement/improvement beyond the current Tier 5 as the level cap is expanded.

Does anybody else here think we dont need "uber admiral" rank and GOD FORBID ... tier 6 ships ... "the omega uber uber dreadnought of dewm not cannon pew pew ship" .... atm the most powerfull known ships in de federation are in the game ....

Kinda sad if progression ends this quickly in an MMO.
Not that there's that much incentive to even get to max level at is. Of my four captains, none are max level. I always get bored half-way through captain and start a new character.

It's not unheard of for them to end at level 50-60. CoH's cap is 50, CO's is 40 still I believe, and WoW's used to be 60 to begin with. The problem is how quickly you get to the cap. As I've stated in the past, the game is backwards from what it should be. It takes forever to get through Lt. but you can get from RA1 to VA1 in a couple days, if that for the hardcore types. STO doesn't so much need a level cap increase (and certainly doesn't need T6) as it just needs it's levelling time swapped. In most MMOs I've encountered, it takes longer to get through the last 10 levels than it does the first 10-20.

As far as T6, I don't believe its entirely necessary. And what I'm worried about is IF T6 comes, that all these retrofitted T5s will be re-retrofitted because everyone's *****ing about how "T6 ships are more powerful than their T5 favorites".

One of the reasons I think Cryptic isn't thinking about the future. They've seriously backed themselves into a corner there. The game's not a year's old and they effectively ruled out ever being able to introduce a higher tier of ships without, a) screwing people over royally, or b) having the create T6 versions and "upgrading" everyone.

It is getting a tad redicilous, but only in the rank naming way.

Thing is: Part of MMO is leveling up. As such people expect that they can at some point reach a certain level and progress beyond that level. And I understand that, and I even agree.

Had the levels only been numbers, this would have been no issue at all, but since they (thankfully) decided to run with the starfleet ranks, this issue would eventually become appearent as it has now.

A solution would IMO be to end the ranks at captain. Im talking ranks here, not level.
Once you hit Captain, you can get sub ranks to captain, say diffrent titles, for example (and I know theese are bad examples):

- Captain (Unexpirienced) - (what is captain now).
- Captain (Expirienced) - (what is RALH+RAUH).
- Captain (Seasoned) - (VA)
- Captain (Specialist)

... and so on.

Next add Fleet Captain or Fleet Admiral (the last one would probably cause some dissagreement in the community) to the Fleet leaders (Leaders of actual fleets) and then ranks would make alot more sence.

They could raise the level cap without introducing a new tier of ships and instead focus on new tiers of gear.

Well that'd be boring. The game is so easy that you could have equipment 5 tiers old and still win. Maybe not in PvP, but in pretty much all PvE content.

If they are going to keep raising the level cap they may as well just rework the entire skill tree and break it into a talent tree like system (seperate for ground and space). There is just no specialization when it comes to getting this many points. We're all going to be rather generic.

I'd rather just not have to grind anymore levels. It is a poor excuse for content.

just say no to T6 , or higher, ships. besides, there's isn't much in the way of hard canon to justify newer designs/classes

I would say, forget about Tier 6 and increased level cap but do the following:

Make lower ranks (to like LT commander 1) go faster ... and make everything above that go way slower .... your way more motivated to do an effort if your not flying a piece of ... garbage .... that only has torpedoes front, 1 beam bank in the back and one beam bank in front ...... so it would make sence if the parts where you have a decent ship would take longer to do.

Second, fix exploration (its something a lot of people want to do but feel is horribly lacking) if it were im sure people would be happy to grind that (for a while) for me personally that would not require much, just have missions make sence, have the right text in it, maybe a diplomatic alternative solution, or just alternative solutions in general, and what annoys me most is unlogical base/ship designs randomly generated.

Kick out the Pvp maps that Never never get used, like the arena one 10 v 10, orrr .. if they wanna keep it ... make it so everybody only has one life and working together is a TOTAL must. And add at least one more map in pvp that has more then "kill the other team" as objective, like the capture n hold map we have now.

Other things that pop to mind are already being done so ...

For the record, i love the way the game is going atm, and i have faith in the devs (wuv you dstahl) but that tier 6 makes me worried... dont wanna abandon the ships (on my lt general and my va) that i have realy realy grown to LOVE LOVE LOVE. just to grind 10 more levels to ... fleet admiral or something and find that they have become worthless.
