For all those people who have asked, time and time again. Here's a little chart to clear up some misconceptions on what Efficient Bridge Officers really do, especially when it comes to power levels. Being fortunate enough to have five efficient officers, I figured I'd share my results.

Efficient Captain & Five Efficient Bridge Officers (15th November 2010 original post)
Stats results for:
1 Tactical 1 Engineer 3 Science efficient officers & Efficient Science Captain on a Retrofit Intrepid
"Starship Aux/Shields/Weapons Efficiency" set to 9/9
"Starship Engine Efficiency" set to 1/9

Balanced Power Setting

Update: I've been meaning to update this thread with the proper skills spec'd in the skill tree seeing as in my original post I was still spec'd 9/9 in all efficiency skills. I have since set them all to 2/9 and dumped the extra skill points into the higher tier skill for weapons, shields and auxiliary. As can been seen below, power levels drastically improved by simply spec'ing into those higher tier skills, but the efficient officer power level bonus dropped a little bit.

Efficient Officers stack, as can be clearly seen above, and there appears to be no limit as to how many you can have (heard many people say you can only have three), five obviously being the max though.

Over all, efficient officers are not worth the trouble when it comes to power levels. Where the Efficient Bridge Officer shines is your Skill area. If you have 5 efficient BO's, and you yourself an efficient captain, you will have +35 skill points towards your engines/shields/weapons/aux efficiency settings. If you respec and set those 4 skills to +18 points (instead of the full +52) you will still have +52 if you run the efficient officers. That way you can use the valuable skill points (total of 8400 skill points actually) elsewhere, ie: antiproton or really enhancing your ground abilities.

If I've missed something, or if you have anything to add, please don't hesitate.

Don't forget the impact of those skills on a few Engineering abilities, such as Emergency Power to Weapons or Shields. The extra skill points can make those abilities even stronger, and in conjunction with a lower-than-normal power level being boosted, you could use the strengthened Emergency Power to boost yourself all the way up to 125. I do this regularly with my Efficient Captain, 4x Efficient officers, and Emergency Power to Shields III at the 30 power setting.

Efficient bridge officers boost the same things your character's efficiency skills do. Just like the efficiency skills, your BOffs have a better return on any subsystem lower than 50 and improves as the power setting approaches 25. The return is worse as the power setting approaches 75, yielding no bonus at power setting 80 or higher.

Makes sense. In my second test when I had the power to weapons almost maxed out, the efficient officers didn't make a difference at all, for weapons. They did however improve on the two (shield & aux) power levels I had set to 25 greatly; +4 shields and +5 engines.

It seems to me that these efficient skills aim for balance. The more you reduce a power level, the more the efficient officer will try to compensate. Very cool

They're always Saurians and it's the first thing that comes up when you mouse over them to read their abilities. And they usually cost around 20-25 million credits.

Search the Exchange for Uncommon Saurian BOs. As Cosmic mentioned, they cost 20M+ EC.

If you want a demonstration of how Captain Traits & Skills, Efficient BOs, Ship-type, Consoles, Engines, etc affect your ship power levels, take a look at my Ship Power Calculator:

An excellent tool (if I do say so, myself) for character planning, respec, or just plain curiosity.

Indeed. I checked out your xls months ago, nicely made; all calulations seem to be accurate as well.

I did a respec recently setting 3/9 to all aux/shields/engines/weapons efficiency, and dumping the spare skill pts into the highest tier aux/shields/engine/weapons (believe it came to 7/9 on all), and ended up with an additional +4 spread over the power settings. The end results were identical to your tool there. Good job.

Thanks for the hard work on this!! Great resource! Now I want to either respec or even start a new toon (ugghh after I just got all my equipment to Mk XI .... what a long road to come back).

I have two Saurians for my Fed toons, but I was wondering if there were any on the Klingon side of the house?
