NOTE: original idea for this was from MustrumRidcully, all i'm doing is using his idea for an unofficial poll for you forum goers to vote on, that is all
OTHER NOTE: another part of this vote includes an idea from mistformsquirrel
3RD NOTE: NONE OF THESE IDEAS ARE MINE, I"M JUST POSTING THIS POLL, AND THAT IS ALL.

all right, enough with the disclaimers, time for the poll itself: in STO, every single ship has that rather slow warp core breach we're all familiar with. this poll will vote on whether the players want a few options on ship death, making another small touch to this already great game.

Do you want the same ship death we have now, over and over and over?
OR...
Do you want a few different ship deaths, which follow below:
The familiar slow ship death
Instant explosion (no delay, nothing left)
Dead hulk only (maybe small parts going off)
Multi-part explosion (saucer goes one way, the nacelle goes the other, etc)

Scoring:
2 (you love the idea, and you really want it in-game)
1 (you like the idea, and you want it in-game)
0 (you don't care one way or the other, and could care less if it's in-game or not)
-1 (you don't like the idea, and you don't want it in-game)
-2 (you hate the idea, and you really don't want it in-game)

Current Total Poll Results (I'll come by every so often to edit the results, so we can keep them up to date )
Multiple Ship Deaths: 6
Current Ship Death: 0

Feel free to ask any questions, and if anyone could get a dev to watch over this, that would be great

I don't really have a problem with the current death animation, and the explosion damage is quite useful against enemy fighters swarming together. Having that be hit or miss isn't really worth an entirely aesthetic change.

I want:

Quote:
The familiar slow ship death
Instant explosion (no delay, nothing left)
Dead hulk only (maybe small parts going off)
Multi-part explosion (saucer goes one way, the nacelle goes the other, etc)
Them all. Each ocurring randomly.

And then add a zoom in on the ship showing the ejected crew flailing into the icy irrevocable maw of space.

They, the multi-part thingy isn't mine.

But I love them all and want them in the game. So make it a 2.

Do they have to be random, or would also like (or even prefer) a "logic" behind them?

Say:
Instant Explosion - A ship is destroyed by going from 50 % or more hull.
Mult-part Explosion - A ship is destroyed by going from 26 % to 49 % hull.
Slow Death - A ship is destroyed by going from 6 % to 25 %.
Dead Hulk - A ship is destroyed by by going from 5 % or less hull.

(Numbers are more or less "made-up" - some playtesting might be required to see what values are "realistically" achieved in typical games)

2, Definitely 2.

Variable explosion damage being inflicted with different deaths would be awesome too. The Kamikaze attack is a little hackneyed, I don't think "Dying on your enemies" should be rewarded consistently. Exploding definitely should still do damage, but I think it should vary randomly, along with different effects.

What i want to see is some more actual damage and death effects.
Hull chunks coming off ships, secondary explosions and debris and major hull breaches, effects of leaking atmosphere etc.

Essentially i want to see effects like the "2000" game Klingon Academy had.

This with fed redshirts squirting out of the hull breaches like blood.

I think I saw some parts and nacelles flying off in beta that quickly dissapeared before launch. I hope they are revisited and improved upon.
