# 1 Tier 4 or Tier 5?
07-08-2014, 05:46 AM
Marauder Flight Deck Carrier: is it supposed to be tier 4 or tier 5? Wiki has it listed as 5 in the article, but as 4 on the ship list at the bottom of the page.
A Trill, a Gorn, a Jem'Hadar, Bejoran and a Voth walk into a bar, and the Bartender asks "What is this a Joke?"
"Nope, just my away team" the trill replies before ordering a round for the bar.

It is tier 5. The list at the bottom shows it as a level 40 ship. Level 40 and 50 ships are both tier 5.

All Level 40 and above ships are T5, but Fleet and Lobi/Lockbox ships are considered T5.5.

Or, to make it easier...
there are about 4 tiers after tier 3.
4.0 are the basic ships you get free for hitting level 40.
5.0 are the better ships you can buy at 40, including mirrors and zen ships, as wells as most of the "free" event ships.
6.0 are the 9 console tier 5 ships, many can be upgraded via fleet.
7.0 are the 10 console tier 5 ships, and most fleet ships.

as far as it goes, you can do all PVE content in anything 4.0 or better from my system. (yes, yes, you can do it with lower ships too with skill and gear, but 4.0 is "about" what the difficulty is scaled toward).
Note: some 4.0 ships do NOT work cross faction (romulan aligned etc). That is, you may NOT use a 4.0 mirror fed ship on a rom fed, for example.

The only difference between the Tier 5 C store ships, and the Free Tier 5 ships, is the store ones come with a gimmick console, the mirror ones are the same as the free ones just "reversed" so better i don't think so.

Unofficially on the forums, anything with 10 console slots is called a T5.5 ship

anyway here is a list of the ships http://sto.gamepedia.com/Playable_starship

Um... no, noroblad. Tier 4 is at level 30. As for the rest of that, mirror ships are identical to the free level 40 ships - 9 consoles and no special powers.

9 consoles, no powers: Free ships at level 40, fleet ships with no module cost, mirror ships, some event ships (Ambassador and original Odyssey/Bortas, all of which are now fleet no-module ships)
9 consoles, special powers: Most C-store ships, some event ships (Dyson and Obelisk).
10 consoles, no powers: Most fleet ships with a module cost, the Steamrunner from the Steam pack.
10 consoles, special powers: Lockbox ships, C-store 3-pack ships, and a few fleet ships (those with 5 modules), some event ships (Breen and Risian)

Both no-power groups are generally compatible with the power consoles from an equivalent 9 console C-store ship if one exists - for example, the multivector advanced escort's power can be used on the standard 9 console advanced escort or the 10 console fleet version.

wrong...virtually no difference in stats between mirror and normal ships. Even c-store ships mostly* are basic ships like mirror and normal T5 ships.
Only when you get a 10 console ship, you actually have an upgrade worth mentioning...T5.5.

*exeption would be the guramba and some other ships that have some "build in" function, like Lance, Javeline, Transwarp locations, ...

That sounds pretty much spot on and it's also how the terminology worked on lower tier c-store ships that had an additional console, but weren't as good as those on the next tier.

As far as I can remember, Refit-ships like the Rhode Island, Gladius, Venture, Exeter etc... were always the "T.5"- or "+1"-ships.

Right, the mirrors are the same, for some reason I was thinking they were slightly better.

I still say there should be at least 4 between 40-50. Basic ships, ships with one or more of (console, gimmick, upgradeable, free from event), and 10 console ships (whatever else they have) give you three "tiers": So far so good, that matches the 5.5 idea you guys all follow.

But there is, or soon will be, a 4th tier in there. Compare the nicor, the latest lockbox, to a fleet somraw (both "5.5" 10 console destroyer class ships) for example...
the nicor has +1 special console, +1 special ship ability (hull regen), better (universal) officers, and +1 weapon. Saying the two are the same "tier" makes no sense to me, same as saying all the "tier 5" ships are on par with each other.

Or maybe a better, long term way to look at it is just by ship release date... newer tends to be superior in some way(s), rather than try to group them into buckets.

Sure you got differences between ships, but in the end, they're close enough to be on the same tier. Otherwise you wouldn't have any ships in a single tier, as most of them have some little difference to each other.

The Nicor sacrifices Hull, Shields and Cruiser-Commands for a better turn-rate when compared to battlecruisers, and sacrifices turn-rate in favor of a weapon slot when compared to raptors or escorts. Same number of boff abilities, same number of console-slots.

The special console is just equipment and will probably be discarded for a more useful console by most people anyways. If anything, you'd probably have to rate it down a tier if you keep it on there.
