its decent space combat (actually its submarine combat , but i won't get into that) and terrible ground combat. The niche of this game , and why most of us play it, is that we are fans.

I'm not really a Star Trek fan (I've only seen a couple of seasons of TNG) but the quests and stories are actually pretty interesting if you take the time to read them. The custiomization of your characters, away team, and ships are all awesome, as is space combat itself, but the ground combat leaves a lot to be desired (IIRC, they're going to revamp it in the future). The release of the game was sub-par at best, but Cryptic listens to what we want (generally) and they release quality patches and content updates.
