well, the rollbar has the same meaning as the secondary saucer on nebula.
its a modular mount for optional assets like sophisticated science module, photon torpedo launchers an so on.
asking runabout without is makes exactly no sense as nebula without secondary saucer.

ehh, people will always complain, if someone was to post it as a new topic the forum lurkers will come out to flame them for not having searched first to see if anyone else already did the topic and if they do that the forum lurkers flame them anyway for posting in an old topic.

Nonsense. The majority of runabouts onscreen had no rollbar.

Offscreen the rollbar was just there to set distinguish one runabout from another if multiple were on screen.
So usually they primaryly used runabouts without bars and if a second one was in the scene the second had the rollbar.
And even that became almost obsolete when the Defaint was introduced in season 3.

I personally like them with rollbars better, but options are always nice.

well, that's because runabout mostly seen as a multipurpose support ship for DS9, mostly for personal transport to and from bajor. which task do not require any special assets.
however on episodes made on or around runabouts, which means special tasks were involved, everyone can see for example weapon phalanx firing beams and torps mounted on top of rollbar.

I doubt you'll ever see much changes regarding small craft considering what little use we get from them. As far as the roll bar on top of the Danube class runabout, it's there to stay. If any changes should be made to small craft I'd say more bridges for them. every small craft or at least most of them all have the exact same bridge. Shouldn't they differ, at least a little? Also, what about some of the other shuttle types? Really though, I don't see much of anything happening with any small craft until more stuff is added in the game that requires small craft, which, with the stuff the game has now I'm guessing a solanae class small craft similar to the new science destroyer with possible small craft missions in the future dealing with the new dyson sphere stuff.

A runabouts weaponry has absolutely nothing to do with the rollbar. It's phasers are near the cockpit, on it's nacelles and near the aft windows. Torps, both micro and/or the normal photons/quantums are below the cockpit.

It's simply a sensor module that can be removed and added, just like the interior modules can. If we can even remove that huge pod below the DSSV, there should be no logical reason why we souldn't be able to do so on the Danube.

It would be nice if they changed it, but as others have mentioned, i doub't they're going to go back and work on the design of an old, free small craft.
