So I've just posted slightly off-topic on a thread advocating a reduction in the number of pets spawned by carriers. Saying I would like to have a hot-key for targeting player vessels only and not syphon pods, mines or fighters, as it can be quite hard to target an enemy BoP by clicking on it while inside the swarm, and toggling through all the NPCs (and sometimes, accidentally past your target) is a pain in the ass...
I stand by that...
But wouldn't it be an idea to, somewhere down the line, allow people to lock onto a fixed number of targets and get certain advantages from that? Just select a target and hit L (not sure if that button does anything yet) to toggle a weapons lock (lost when it leaves visual range/cloaks). The number of locks we can sustain could be fixed, based off a skill, or simply 1 plus however many tactical BO stations our ships've got.
We'd still be able to swat a casual passer-by out of nothing, but damage done to a ship or object we're locked onto would be slightly greater (perhaps just a 1 percent boosted chance of applying your weapon's debuff) than the space-age equivalent of flailing around blindly that seems to be all the trend now. Furthermore, the locked targets should get small versions of the current target status indicator somewhere along the top of the IU (if there's room left) that'd let us switch more quickly between our priority targets. Mines might tack a kilometer onto their trigger radius where locked targets are concerned, and abilities such as Fire At Will could become slightly less random, hitting these prioritized targets more often than they otherwise would.
But most of all, no more fishing for Klingons in a puddle of NPCs.
I was about to post something similar. I pvp'ed against Klingons yesterday and wasn't amused.
Many Klingon players seem to play a carrier-type ship lately, spawning dozens of more or less useless fighters which makes it hard to target the true threat - the player.
If the targeting issue is what they are made for, than good job Cryptic, they do their job nicely.
I am up for slightly more powerful fighters but give us "Target next/previous enemy player" keys.
I am always dead when i finally found a player controlled ship, that can't be intended.
I stick with Fed vs Fed PvP until this got fixed.
