# 1 Does the Earth spin or rotate?

Does Earth (when viewed outside or inside ESD) spin or rotate?

If not, it should. Would be nice if it did, and new continents were visible from ESD.

For that matter, how about making Earth move lively? Maybe put some ships and shuttles orbiting Earth? Starfleet and Earth would certainly have ships orbiting the planet, shuttles going back and forth from Earth to ESD.

I think Earth needs a re-design. it is the heart of the Federation afterall, it just seems like it should be more active, more lively, more scenic.

Its not bad the way it is, but i can certainly see the improvements you're talking about.

At the very least remove the nebula like I said in the Ask Cryptic!

ESD could be in a geosynchronous orbit, so it will always have the same bit of Earth below it.

Course, then the starfield would have to rotate. :p

The windows are fake. You aren't actually looking outside.

Only very slowly though, so slowly that implementing moving stars would be pointless IMHO

Good point. Iit would take 24 hours for it to spin once...

They could exaggerate the effect slightly so it's noticeable. I think that would add a really nice bit of visual fluff to the Earth area. They'd have to implement it in 3 places for consistency though: Outside ESD, inside ESD, and not forgetting ESD's lounge. I've noticed that outside ESD, Earth has moving clouds now, and the odd shuttle flying around, but viewed from the lounge, Earth has no moving clouds

ESD is in rotation above San Francisco so we wouldn't see Earth spinning. However it would be cool if both ESD and Earth spun so that the correct side was facing the sun/moon at the correct time.
