Some people love how the stations are set up now, others might want to see things changed up a bit. What do? Well what if you could make some minor changes when you’re updating your ships costume? Were you chose your bridge there is a tab to change its scaling. Add another tab for bridge stations! Maybe make 3 possible profiles per ship. Take the sovereign for example-

Assault cruiser profile- a good balanced set up
Comm eng
Ltcom eng
Lt tac
Lt sci
Ens tac

Strike cruiser profile- sacrifices survivability for spike firepower
Comm eng
Ltcom tac
Lt eng
Lt sci
Ens eng

Battle cruiser profile- brute force
Comm eng
Ltcom eng
Lt tac
Lt tac
Ens sci

For the star cruiser just swap the tactical with science.

Star cruiser profile- a good balanced set up

Lt sci
Ens sci

Command cruiser profile- advanced battle field control
Comm eng
Ltcom sci

Ens eng

Control cruiser profile- survivability for your allies, confusion for your enemies

That whole excelsior being better than the sov thing fly’s out the window, now you can fly what you like best, not what stations you like best. and new ships wouldn’t have to be introduced to get more interesting setups. this should be for tier 5 ships only, it wouldn’t work so well on lower tiers. There’s a lot more wiggle room with tier 5.

I do believe bridge stations are part of the balancing between different classes and should thus better be left alone.

I would, however, greatly appreciate some way to influence where my BOs sit when I am in my bridge interiors. :p

I've got a bit of a thing for adding items and equipment to the game; BOFF slots should be tied to a "Bridge" item which can be equipped. Some Bridges would only be equip-able on Cruisers, some on Escorts and some on Science Ships. Each bridge would have tiers.

Actually as a way for the federation to have a sense of custimization to thier vessels and Bridge Officers, I like this idea as long as bridge and BO layouts are influenced by the vessel purpose/design in question.

the devs talked about different bridges and ship parts affecting performance in different ways, but they decided not to because everyone would use the configuration that ended up being best and everyone would look the same. that's why abilities are not tied to appearance.

this got buried a wile ago, but seeing as you have the advanced escort with 2 different station setups coexisting at the same time, it seems like something like this could be the next step.

every station niche wouldn't need a new ship, and people wouldn't have to choose between a station setup they like and a ship set up they like.
