# 1 Copy/paste maps?
12-17-2010, 01:12 PM
I'm looking for a fast and easy way to repeat content. I simply don't see an easy way to duplicate a map and its contents... am I missing something? I had hoped to have the crew return to the same map several times, and have one or two changes to this map occur when they did, necessitating my duplicating the map and altering those one or two things.

Is it possible to do something like this without having to recreate the map by hand?

Not yet it isn't. Hopefully the Devs will add some amount of functionality for that soon.

It's funny, you spend so much time with other professional tools, it gets to the point you just expect things to work the same, lol.

Shift+drag to get an object to snap to grid (and snap to 90' or 45' when rotating)
Alt+drag an object to just duplicate it (creating a copy of the same type and settings)
click on nothing and drag arround to select multiple items, then drag/rotate/etc that group
space and click+drag to scroll around the map...

*sigh*
Even the ability to copy a whole map from one project into another, close a project without closing the whole tool, etc...

I really made my life difficult trying to re-use maps... it just does not work well at all... the games little brain gets all confused very easily. You get ten maps for a mission... use them wisely because you cannot really leave and come back to any map as far as I can tell.... even simple things tend to confuse the Creation tool. We are just going to have to deal with it...

In time it is clear they plain to let built you own star base and ship addon from what I have seen from the Foundry. Some of these rooms take hours to make. A way to share them would be nice or even let people see you mission but not edit it. If I did the mission Frogs Fly and saw something and said to my self how did he do that I could just open up there mission and find out how. They should not be able to edit but look at and lean how.

I think I found A way to get maps from one mission to the next... I imported my completed mission and renamed it... Kept what I wanted and pitched the rest... the only real problem was that the actual name of the mission will not change until you publish it again... so you can sort your projects by date to find the imported one... change the title page so you know the difference and you are good to go...

I thought I should update this and let you guys know that I was able to bring my maps from another mission into another by importing it & renaming it.. Just published the new mission and it worked perfectly. Just don't get confused and edit the wrong one. You can list your mission by "newest".

Do not forget sharing maps. If someone made a great shuttle and every wanted it. It would great if you could put that section of the map in some kind of share option.

I'd like to copy/paste and share maps.

I totally understand if certain things (like reach markers) don't copy but the rest should.
