I'm curious if there is such a thing as "best ground weapon by class" in your opinion...
Best weapon for Tactical Officers - Sniper Rifle
Best weapon for Science Officers - Arc Wave
Best Weapon for Engineering Officers - Split Beam
Is there consensus and one weapon stands out by class - or is it all purely speculative?
Is this a prelude to a set of class-specific skills to boost characters using these weapons? If so, I approve! If we're going to make class a bigger factor in ground combat though, it might be cool to have it determine the balance between proc strength and raw damage. Science characters should have a much higher chance of getting a secondary effect with lower damage, tacticals should be the reverse and engineers should be balanced.
To answer your question; Definitely see the Sniper as being a tactical officer focused weapon.
all normal weapons (ie not weekly reward) are boosted by tac captain power. therefore eng and sci captain using the same weapon will have the same dps, and so i dont think there is such a thing as the best.
most we can say is. sci captain have more aoe expose and may "like" aoe exploit (ie split beam), which is not what the DEV OP says...
dual pistols are generally the best expose weapons for any class, with pulse wave coming in second in my experience.
as for exploit wepons, i would say the proton rifle, sniper rifle or split beam.
I don't think any class greatly favours any weapon type; it's more dependent on the player behind the character; class has little to do with it, though tactical officers are probably the best at using melee weapons. I would be using the same wepons whether i was using tac, eng or sci.
