i was just talking to a few fleetmates today about how the Excel changes gameplay because it gives you the ability to travel all over in shorter amounts of time to complete missions and to gather samples. which gives an Excel Captain an advantage over other sample gathers when it comes to spec their ships and characters.

now i cant call cryptic on wether or not they could of forseen that being a downside to the Excels abilities or not. but what i can say is, anything that is gamechanging and cant be purchased thru ingame currency is unfair to the playerbase and cryptic is either okay with that and only paying us lipservice or they are purposely ignoring the truth.

you're free to do that, and maybe right to do that.

but i also want the ship, so not buying it will ultimately hurt me too as its something i want to have. ill let other people do the protesting with their wallets.

but i have not bought it yet.

# 43 $25 is Too Expensive!
12-23-2010, 12:07 PM
The Gumby is priced at $25?

I bought the Connie for $10.
I even bought the Excel, but that $15 is it... I considered that expensive for a ship and where I draw the line.
I did also by the Enterprise back (which, yes is fractionally more than $15), but in my defense it included costumes.

I will not buy a ship for $25, or even $20 on some future 20% sale...

Ships should be unlockable in game (even at some expensive 500 Emblem amount) for each captain. And I think $15 is plenty enough to unlock on an account.

I'm very disappointed. I was actually planning on getting this ship, just because it was cool. Not now.

-1 Sale.

im not trying to convince you not to do what you want with your money, you earned it you spend it as you see fit. only stating that your sending mixed signals by saying you dont like how they are going about this but still willing to dishout the cash.

basically by buying it your telling cryptic your overall okay with how they handled this.

i just know i havent purchased any of the refits and i got myself the refit defiant ingame without spending cash. most of my money is spent on small things like a pet or costume for my characters. i have a quite a bit unlocked for myself. and im okay with purchasing Cstore Items as long as that money is being funneled back into the game. but im not okay with buying a ship that will put me at an advantage in someway over another player. id rather let my skills and build give me an advantage.

I never was going to get this ship, i just thought it looked cool. I cant blame anyone who rages about it being only a C-Store item, and whats more the price...ugh. I got the Galaxy-X but ive regretted it every time i take her out of mothballs. I would definitly be mad if i were a tactical person and saw this kettle of fish.

i totally see your point but i disagree with that assesment. i am clearly not ok hence the reason i wrote the post but i may grudging buy it. that does not mean i will do it the next time or the next.

i personally see this as a friendly warning of 'rethink your strategy for next time i may not be so forgiving'. im giving them some leeway here. i may not next time.

i could stamp my feet and say im not going to buy it, but i cant speak for the entire community. if everybody else decides not to buy it then my few pounds of money wont make the slightest bit of difference to them what i do, so i might as well do what's best for me (something i have still yet to decide on). their marketing strategy is not based on my opinion only so im doing what feels right for me.

it sends mixed signals if everybody does it but i know everybody wont buy it. i cant control everybody's actions so i might as at least consider buying the ship that i want to buy or ill never have it. thats feels like cutting off my nose to spite my face, but thats why im holding back. maybe in the morning ill decide to leave it and see how it goes. perhaps i wont want it as badly. perhaps then ill never buy it. ill just see how it goes.

The "...poke you in the eye" text is a leftover from our placeholder description for the item in the c-store. The original description was a rewrite to a popular 80's children's television show theme song.

The re-write made note of some similarities this ship has to the characters portrayed in that show, and also made light of the design of the ship itself.

Sometimes, our designers have a pretty awesome sense of humor.

Heh, you sure the poke in the eye wasn't a reference to it being C-Store only?

Well I suppose this statement, addressing the rather humorous "Poke in the eye" being fixed soon confirms that its C-store only availability is fully intentional.

# 48 Really??? Honestly......
12-23-2010, 12:26 PM
You would at least think that they would use common sense on this one. They go ahead and give us 3 ships (one of which I won't even fly since it is a death trap...so 2 1/2 ships), and those are available in-game. Here's the thing...I have saved my ship token at LTG for so long...yes, since season 2 came out, just so I could get this version of an escort only to have them charge us in the C-Store....Here's the issue...The ship, while having a disruptor lance, unless you spec into beams completely and disruptors aint worth SQUAT !!!!!!! They want to charge us 2k points (that's more than a good chunk of my remaining balance), just to have the honor of flying a ship that has a transforming mode and such...to tell you the truth...I don't think it's quite right....

****Either bring the price of the CP down, make it available someway in the game, or just chuck the idea. I liked testing it, and I was waiting for it to be entered into the game, but good grief.... It seems the other foot has fallen.

This ship is not game-changing, it is not something that needs to be charged an insane amount of C-Points for, it just seems to me that they want their money's worth in making it at the same price as the galaxy X... Thanks but...no thanks..I'll stick to this ruddy looking Raptor, and in case it's not already apparent, I will NOT make purchase of this stinking ship for 2k points...25 dollars for a ship? I mean really.....I will definitely be making the suggestion that everyone in my fleet think long and hard before they even toy with the idea of getting this ship. Honestly, I know the KDF needed a good escort ship but geez....
So, is there going to be a tactical vessal I can actually fly that will be available at LTG?...something other than that death trap retrofit BOP? If so, will we also be charged 25 dollars for it? I have a right to be miffed..I don't really care if some people don't agree with my sentiment, but if you don't; then...well, so be it..

Keep replies polite...I'd hate to report griefers on my quote.

But it's Christmas for Cryptic. That $25 might just buy um.. presents for their kids or go towards a jacuzzi for their kitchen. :3

i seriously was considering asking a few friends of mine to play the game with me. but 10 months in and were still on the same rollercoaster with this company.

regardless if this ship is gamechanging or not....the fact is 25 dollars for this thing is beyond okay. thats a good chunk of a paycheck for some people if you include monthly sub its a pretty steep price to pay for a skin and a sub.

yes people dont have to buy it, but really why would you expect people to be willing to put money out for this game if they see they need to pay a quarter of their weekly paycheck for some 0s and 1s.

i know my friends (bigger gamers then i am) would call me an idiot right now for paying for this game with their marketing schemes.
