And this unexpected downtime was a sign that they need the maintenances. If you're lucky with that or not.

I foresaw it. I take it with a smile … hopefully there will be no unexpected crashes afterwards.

One could hope that Cryptic eventually settles on a relatively regular schedule of maintenance, to the likes of once a week. Blizzard does just fine having a weekly maintenance on Tuesdays for US, and Wednesdays for EU. Since STO is run on a single server for the entire planet, obviously only 1 maintenance day is supposedly required. In which case, it's better to schedule said maintenance to the middle of the week, rather than to the weekend when more people are likely playing.

It is rather annoying since its the holidays and I'm off work, but generally I miss the maintenance shutdowns as they're 1100 - 1300 GMT when I'm at work. I do feel for those in other timezones where its peak time but then there are less people on overall at this time of the day so unless there are different servers in North America, EU, Asia then they can't win.

All I can say is ^&(^ happens, and you guys working on it good job! I have been playing this game from the begining and all I can say is that it keeps getting better...ROME was not built in a day, but you guys came close..LOL!! For the server being down what can anyone say? or the time? Who cares as long it gets fixed...My 2 cents worth...

People complain when the server crashes unexpectedly (yesterday), and then they complain when Cryptic takes the server down (I assume) to work to prevent future crashes.

It's either some downtime now, or lots of downtime later, as with any server system. Take your pick.

However, if the Maintenance includes heavy patching of issues folks have mentioned, then I'm all for it.
