Yes, its viable.

Because at the endgame of the game, both feds and klinkers basically are doing the same stuff.
Klingons have more Dailies now!

Once you have levelled 2 Fed charaters to Rear Admiral or Vice Admiral, you won't really find the existing missions satisfying on the 3rd time. My 3rd Fed I played almost like a Klingon character (maybe with more PvE and less PvP).

And ocne you have reached "endgame" as Vice Admiral or Major General, there isn't really any difference. The weekly episodes are faction-agnostic. The Exploration missions exist for both sides. The new Dailies exist mostly for both sides (actually, now Klingons have the advantage with the new Sorties in Pi Canis.)
One thing I do find that makes the Federation much more viable for play is the fact that the ships, costumes etc are all recognizable. The thing that motivates me to get to the next rank is the fact that I get to play as my favorite federation ships. Klingons have far less variety and also I don't have as much interest in the ships or costumes. Federation ships are way prettier.

That's ironic. I like the KDF because it looks so much more like the faction we know from the shows. Klingons actually look like Klingons, Orions look like Orions, you've got all those very klingon'y ships, etc...

When I look at the Federation all I see is a bunch of brightly coloured people who do not look like they belong to the same faction at all, and the paintjobs and hull colours often make the ships look so much different that all that still connects them to Star Trek is the (admittedly iconic) existence of nacelles. Not to mention the weird combinations people sometimes create from the different parts of various classes.

I make all my Starfleet characters "live up" to Starfleet style, but when I'm playing KDF I have the advantage of the majority of other characters looking the part as well. This gives a huge immersion boost, imo.

Sadly, I agree. Too much customization killed Starfleet

Well, except for STFs.

The Feds seem to outnumber the KDF by a factor of 5 to 1.

There's several Fed requests for teams, but rarely any KDF.

And when the odd KDF does show up, there's rarely enough to make a full team.

By the time a Fed has finished a STF run, the KDF has 4 members of a team, maybe 5 if they're lucky.

Given this situation, they need to revisit the proposed (and abandoned) crossteaming function again.
