# 1 Are total blowouts normal?
01-08-2011, 02:39 AM
I have been playing in several PvP missions at VA level. All of the ground combat games result in a one sided victory where the other side doesn't even get a single kill. I was in three consecutive Fed Vs. Kling Areans where the Fed side got completely mauled. This was followed by two assault missions where the Klings camped at our respawn point and didn't even get a scratch. The Klingon Tactical Escort teams owned the Fed team single-handedly. Is this normal, or is there a way to balance this? This is also somewhat common in the extremely rare Fed Vs. Fed matches too.

Unlike space, for ground everyone has equal access to skills, abilities, and (if you craft or use exchange for bat'leths) then weapons too. My bet is that it's a teamwork thing -- Klingons have a far greater PvP emphasis and so are more used to the teamwork, communication, and familiarity with the system to win.

A few things to consider:
1) Are you using appropriate weapons, shields, armor, kits? (e.g. get very rare Mk X and XI items if possible -- this can be done from earning marks and emblems from dailies, crafting, or the exchange)
2) Are you teamed up with the other Federation officers?
2.1) Is there communication on what to do or is it every man for himself?

If you answered no to any of the above, then blowouts can -- and quite likely -- will happen.

You ran in to CHC and now they own the ground!

If it's a pug vs. a premade with half a brain, yes a blow out will happen.

Although yesterday in Capture and Hold, I managed to get two kills vs. a fleet in a 2v5.

Don't leave. I think they're going to fix ground PvP so it's functional in season 4.

We are fine with ground pvp. We dont need for them to fix it. The one thing that needs to be fixed for ground pvp they have no control over. Population.

Most of the people here are space peeps. Which makes sense, that is how the ST Universe was like.
The other problem is that the population in STO is not very pvp oriented. Not only do most not know how to pvp, but when you offer to help them get better, they reject it (not all, but most). For example, last week someone called Hax on us for one shotting him too many times. So very nicely I told him dude come to vent and I and others will show you how its done. He responded to me by saying he doesnt have the time nor the patience. I have notice that his attitude towards pvp is one that dominates STO.

It is what it is I guess.

Not all of us, bu some of us are looking to start a New CHC chapter in Earth Rise. This open world which we love and is focused on pvp.
We will still come around and play here since most of us have life time subs. And some are not leaving at all.

That seems to be the major problem doesn't it? Choosingh between making a PvP character or one geared to completeing missions. My characters are usually a balance of skills for both space and ground so that I can complete missions. I have noticed that the power players are using autofire (or nearly continuous) antiproton weapons and ophidian canes. Even with my captain armed with Mk XI armor, shield, and weapon, I still get owned. I did manage to get in a Fed Vs Fed assault and a few areans late last night that were close matches (final score within 5 kills). I would rather play and loose several of those matches rather than win one where the other team doesn't even get a single kill. I would suggest to sweeten the deal, tactical escort personnel SHOULD COUNT toward NPC kill accolades. This would give Klingon players an opportunity to get a few Orion, Gorn, Letherian, and Naus kills.

You want to get better at ground? Either talk to us in CHC's vent and hang with us, or ask FS if you can hang with them.

If you decide to do this, I promise you will get better.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again..

One of my Beefs against Ground PVP vs Space PVP is that the Kits are limiting. You can't really Customize what skills you use vs the way the Kit system works..

The way fighting on the ground is played can feel a little clunky, and I do kinda wish it was more FPS stylized then it is currently, but I never really had that hard of a time fighting with it, it was just dull and boring most of the time for me compared to space.
