I am trying (trying, really!) out the game on the Demo mission.

I have two major issues due to which I am forced to come here:
  1. How to open support ticket? The system is the most idiotic system I have ever seen: I log in the main site, then go to Support - suddenly I cant see ticket list without loggin in again using the same user/pass!
Amateur design - two sections use different session/cookie for no reason... but alas, lets move on:

I am told I have no open tickets - what a shocker - doh I know... Now where is the button to open ticket???
    1 Guess to you... nowhere
  2. I need help figuring out which IP(s) are the ones causing problems with these sympthoms:
A list of characters loads very fast, but getting map sometimes gets me back into login screen. and if not, then the game itself is extremely very laggy! sometimes I get counter going for server contact for over a minute...
Right now it tells me on login screen: Login server disconnected: 208.95.184.211:7001 Press the support button for additional help

Ping to that server is around 160ms.

Needless to say, I have formed so far a very negative impression of STO, both as a gamer, potential customer with expectations to certain degree of service, and Software Developer - I can tell you to replace your web guy, ASAP.

But lets see where we get from here.. I'll give it a chance, its a Star Trek game after all
Any other I would have uninstalled it without trying that hard.

have you got prot forwarding and triggering setup on the route path from them modem/router to that pc with the range of 7000-7500 (the server ports are randomised in that range)

No, I was not notified by the installer anywhere, or saw it as required in order to play the game.

What you saying doesnt make any sense though - why would I need to open INCOMING ports to my pc for a game?

opening ports for gaming helps reduce lag in general and increses performace and reduces packet loss. i have mine set and have almost no issues (apart from the odd server hiccup in a while)

also check your firewall if its letting the game communicate to the server, somtimes the firewall has it blocked, outgoing only or incoming only depending on what one you use.

Well I just opened them. Seem not to help - I get Account server time out...

I tried the European Proxy (I am in Israel).

I am going to sleep now, will follow up in the morning.

So I guess no way to open ticket for support? if I could have a definite IP or two and force the game to keep trying through them, I'd go to the ISP and start checking.. right now we are just guessing in the darkness, even though I do appreciate the attempt to help

opening a ticket required to fur do a search then the search result will have a link to sumbit a ticket if the item articles return did not solve your problem.

the game uses ports 7000-7500.

post result of tracert patchserver.crypticstudios.com and a nettest so there some data to work with.

Nettest:
Go to http://files.champions-online.com/nettest.exe
Download this file and run it
A command prompt should appear running the test automatically

For good connections, column 1 and 3 have values around 500 kb/sec (outgoing/incoming), column 2 has values around 20 kb/sec (transfer rate). If the values in these columns is less than what is expected you may have filtering or blocked ports either on your personal network or from your ISP.

The route seems relatively short and good, but I'll say again, my problem is NOT with patch server, but the game itself.. anyway:

The patch server is located withthe game servers so the trace route checks the routing to the server sites.

nettest check your packet tranfers of game traffic on some critical ports the game uses in the range of 7000-7500 (they can not do all the ports) in the outgoing and incoming packets and the tranfer rate. if the values in column 1 and 3 are less than 250 and column 2 is less than 13 then you will likely have lag and connection problems in the game.

so if nettest unable to pass traffic then the game will not be able to send and recieve game packets properly

(if using win7 or vista besure nettest is set to run as admin and is allowed by your antivirus and filewalls)
