With all radical change comes a whole slew of hate. The new movie took the series back to it's roots line TOS. YOu can't compare the new one to Wrath of Kahn or TMP because it was a different style of film making. Wrath of Kahn is the way action films were back then. Star Trek XI is the way most action fils are today.
Oh yeah people who say that the amount of lens flare was ridiculous need to wear glasses. I wear glasses and I get all that junk flashing in my eyes when ever I walk into a room that's lit up like the new Prise's bridge. I saw Star Trek XI on an imax screen, up close and personal with the screen with my dad who has vision problems, and he saw it perfectly fine. In fact I never personally noticed the lens flare until I saw the movie for the fourth time on the big screen.
TMP might've had an interesting plot. But it was an absolutely TERRIBLE movie.
There's a reason its called "Star Trek: The Motionless Picture" and "Star Trek: The Slow Motion Picture".
Trek XI was a good movie. It managed to be entertaining and true to the ideals of TOS, as well as having some nice callbacks. Definitely looking forward to the next one.
Not ripping. Simply stating it wasn't to my liking, nor would I consider it "Trek" in any semblance of the word. I'd agree that it did "try" to have a style... it just didn't succeed.
In your opinion.
Yup. Without question and without a doubt, yup.
Kirk eating apples does not a great Trek story make IMO. If you care to read anything I've ever posted in regard to the new film, you'll find my gripes to be with the filming (JJs infatuation with camera shake and lens flares) and poorly written story. It is a shame that with the talented group of actors/actresses they were able to cast in those roles, they had to suffer a (IMO) bad script.
Kudos to you for enjoying the flick and I'm glad you liked it. Don't begrudge those who differ from your critique and like a better constructed story in their films.
Now that I can agree on.
This is all pretty much was I about to respond to that post with.
Except I don't like time travle anywhere ever, so I can't agree with that. :p
I normally dont act like this, but you seriously need to improve your taste in movies if you thought Star Trek 11 was worse than those all of those movies.
Its really sad when you think of it, there have been 11 Trek movies and only 4 of them (2, 6, First Contact, and the reboot) are really the only good ones. Voyage Home is alright if you're a hippie who like Star Trek movies that have nothing to do with Star Trek. And its sad that TNG only got one good movie and got bogged down with one movie that unnecessarily tried to bridge TOS and TNG, a terrible relocation story that directly contradicts an episode of TNG, and a final movie that's like a terrible version of Wrath of Khan.
I'm not saying the Trek Reboot is a perfect movie, none of the Trek movies are (not even Wrath of Khan), but sweet mercy of God if you're saying Search for Spock or Final Frontier are better written then I seriously question whether or not you're a Trek fan. Thats like saying Plan 9 from Outer Space is a better movie than Empire Strikes Back. Or better yet, like saying the Star Wars Prequel Trilogy is better than the Original Trilogy.
Star Trek 11 is one of the classic "the bad guys have a crazy device and want to wreck everything" plots like you'd see in TOS. Crazy future Romulan has a super weapon that can eat planets. Kirk gets cocky. Spock and Kirk go and stop the bad guys.
Star Trek 6 - Klingons get a super weapon that can fire while cloaked. Kirk gets cocky. Spock and Kirk go and stop the bad guys.
Star Trek 2 - Khan comes back and gets a super weapon that can re-write planets. Kirk gets cocky. Spock and Kirk go stop the bad guys.
Yeah would love that..and I rarely ever say anything negative about the dev team, but they really should let those guys show them how to do ship hull textures.

Fixed.

The biggest problem with The Motion Picture is that it was intitially going to be the pilot episode for Star Trek: Phase 2. When Phase 2 was scrapped, the "rewote" the script into a motion picture.
LOL - that movie is ENTIRELY CGI. The ony things taken from TMP are the models of the workbees, amd the basic model of the refit Enterprise.
Here's the actual sequence - you'll notice it's a bit different, down to your CGI even using the wrong color for the hull.
I'm aware the entire movie is cg, I'm just saying there are only a few places in there that it's smack you in the face obvious that it is. Such as shot of the shuttle, and the landing sequence in particular.
As for the rest of you guys...this thread is about improving the current in game refit Connie model, not which movie is better than others. Take it to another thread, please.
